7.62x54r Surplus

Is there any noticeable difference between Russian, Czech, and Chinese Surplus 7.62x54r? Is there anyone I should prefer over the others?

I can get 880 of Chinese for $350, 800 Russian for $435, or 800 Czech for $400. I would like the best deal, but don’t want the cheapest if the Chinese stuff is junk.
 
Depends what you are shooting from. Some CGNers are adamant that the PRC does not function as well as the others in the SVT40. Personally I fires about 100rds of surplus through a SVT40 and only had 1 stovepipe though i stopped using it because it felt like it was harder recoiling and i did not want to cause a crack in any of the stocks i have...... on the other hand i have a repro sniper that shoots like a fiend with PRC 880can surplus. No other ammo shoots as well out of that rifle so far.

Is using in a Mosin they will all work fine...if using a SVT 40 you may want to buy either the Russian or Czech
 
It will be in a Mosin M38 carbine, if they are all the same I might get the Chinese since it is cheapest, or perhaps the Czech because I can buy it local.
 
I don’t need supreme accuracy, especially with eastern block ammo out of a short barreled Mosin, just stuff that goes bang and stays somewhat on target. Maybe I’ll try the Czech since I can buy it local and in smaller initial quantities to try it out.
 
Out of the M38 I have the PRC of china recoils like a 12ga and shoots about 4-6 inches high at 100m with the sights set to 100m. The barnaul FMJ and SP (only other ammo I have used in it) shoots more accurately and essentially equal to my sights. Still in a M38 they will all work. The Chinese makes a big fireball if that's what your after !
 
I need to get some surplus ammo to feed my SVT rifles. If given the choice my preference would be: Czech, Russian then Chinese.

I can only base this off my experience with 7.62x39. The Czech stuff offered really decent accuracy out of my CZ 858 along with expected perfect reliability. Other posters have also confirmed the same results that the czech stuff was more accurate for them.

Of course the individual firearm, barrel length, twist rate, chrome lined etc will also all affect these results.

On a side note, I really don't fear corrosive ammo. It takes me only a few minutes to clean the firearm to ensure there will be no rust. Not an inconvenience for me. Also anything I've shot Barnaul ammo in shot it like surplus. I don't like paying extra for non corrosive if it's also just plinking ammo.

Last but not least, reloading. I have Lapua 7.54x53r brass which is the same as the RUssian spec 7.62x54r. I have some 174 grain SMK for 303 which is the right diameter. I have shot a reload with this and it functioned perfectly. No accuracy testing yet though. Eventually.
 
The Chinese ones are loaded with some hot powder. My Russian is shooting right on but the Chinese is always a few moa higher. I also had some pPu stuff and they are ok.
 
Old thread, but I think some of the Chinese x54r we've been seeing the past number of years was manufactured as machine gun ammo for their Type 67...which would explain why it's performance has been found to be less accurate and really hot.
