Need some advice from some of you with a lot more experience than I. I recently picked up an old rolling block, in 8x58 Danish Krag. Obviously brass is going to be a bit of a challenge, though I understand they can be bought out of the states, and formed out of 45-90 brass. I have dimensions for the cartridge from Catridges of the world, and I did a chamber cast. I had a round of fired 7.62x54r sitting on the bench and measured it up 'cause it looked close....
8x58 CoW Chamber 7.62 Measured 7.62CoW
Shoulder .460 .459 .461 .453
Base .500 .499 .489 .484
Rim .571 .574 .563 .564
Length 2.28 2.300(est) 2.119 2.110
So my question, can I neck the 7.64x54r up and then fire form it to make a 8x58 (albiet .140 short)? I am concerned about the 0.010" difference in the base diameter....can a guy get away stretching the base of the cartridge 0.010" to the chamber???
