Actually, they were moderately popular in the 60's and early 70's. A few of my uncles had them. They were, IIRC, quite reliable.

Have owned two over the years, found both to be good rifles. Was always a fad of the 303Br.

Over in Finland you can buy quite a few very nice (and expensive) single shot and double hunting rifles chambered in x54R.They do show up in northern Russia here and there.
Beside 7.62 there are versions in 6.5,8 and I think 9mm.I'm not sure if they are local wildcats or factory models.
