OP, it's your choice, but if you do find a reamer, get the neck and throat diameters ground to .308 diameter specs, so you can easily use a .308 bore barrel.

Go on Ebay, and type in "7.65x53 Mauser chamber reamers." There are a couple of sellers out of Europe that will make up the reamer exactly the way you want it, for half the price of the same reamer here.

In that case, he would be better off to go with 308Win from the start.

The 7.65x53 has a very short neck which is another challenge.

I own two beautiful rifles in that caliber, both in original military configuration, a 1909 Argentine and a 1909 Peruvian Mauser.
I love shooting them with reduced loads, topped with 123grs .311 bullets.

I've never found the "short neck" to be a problem. It's longer than "one caliber," which is considered to be minimum for proper projectile retention and tension. Combine that with a crimp, and all is well.

On a few occaisions I ran into some of the rifles chambered for 7.65x52, which were a special round used by one of the South American nations for their "special forces/palace guards?" Yes it's real, look it up.

I have an M91 Peruvian carbine with the "feather style" long bayonet. It's very accurate with .312 bullets, but the short barrel makes for impressive muzzle blasts.

Many of the 1909 and 91 rifles were converted to 7.62x51 by South American militaries.
