7 mm, 30-06 or 270 ?

I shoot both the 30-06 and the 7mm mag, I would go with the 30-06. You have a wide variety of bullet choices, maybe slightly less recoil than the 7mm mag depending on your set up.
 
Any oand all will do the job.

My personal pick out of those 3 would be the 7RM, I have ued that cartridge for years and killed alots with it..

But honeslty there isn't alot difference in "killing power" between the 3.:)
 
30-06 and 7mm, dont use a tiny 270, 30-06 would be the best choice way more versatile for ammo, i understand a 270 will kill a moose but people are always telling me not to use small calibers for animals so id stick with the -06 for sure

hate to burst your bubble there bud, but all three of those are Medium bores. and a .270 kills moose just fine.

Phib's right, .270 is NOT a small caliber, it's a medium bore (0.030" away from .30 cal is close enough for the girls I go out with :D). Your average moose/deer/black bear/beaver/raccoon/gopher/squirrel/milk jug won't notice the difference between a .270 and a 30-06 bullet through the breadbasket, and dead is dead no matter which way you slice it. As far as the original question goes...

It's a coin toss between 30-06 &7MM Mag. I have both, 7MM shoots a little flatter is the only advantage
 
the 30 06 would have never even made it if the 7 mmrm was on the market at the time and the 270 cant do what a 7mm can so if you can handle recoil you can shoot 140 gr for deer and 175 for moose just shoot enough to know how they shoot out of the same gun (hold over) I keep 154gr interbonds and 175 gr barnes x in my bullet holder on the stock 5 of one and 5 of the other

Or you can simply shoot one bullet for all game and only have to sight in with one bullet and learn one trajectory.The 140gr tsx will work fine on moose and elk as well as on deer.

I sold my 30-06 and upgraded to the more versatile cartridge 270 that will do everything that the 30-06 or 7mm will do but with less recoil :p :D :p

I'm a big fan of the 7mm. It has the best ballistics out of the 3. If your looking for affordability the 30-06 has the cheaper ammo and more selection.
 
Yep; boring it may be, but the 30-06 is the most versatile of the three. Very catholic in it's taste for ammo, and really the chambering that practically all other medium bores are compared to. I have all three, and do not hesitate to take a whack at a moose with the 270 if it happens to be in my hands. But the '06 has always been my personal go-to rifle. The game that I have shot with the 30-06 would make a substantial pile of meat!! Regards, Eagleye.
 
I'd suggest a 7mm if you can tolerate recoil, a 270 if not. But the difference between these three is splitting hairs. Any one will give you great results. The 270 and 7mm will have slightly flatter trajectories, but only become significant past 4 or 500 yards. Both the '06 and 7mm will hit harder than the 270 (although the 270 will probably hit harder than the '06 after 500 or so yards of flight, due to more efficient bullets). Basically, with the 7mm, you have all the advantages of both the 270 and '06, with the only real disadvantage being recoil.

But, as I said, the differences are still trivial (at least till you start getting really far out there. Much farther than 99% of hunters are capable of hitting anything at)

In actual fact, the 06 stays ahead of the 270 in energy out past 600 yards.
Typical comparison is a 270/150 Ballistic Tip started at 2950: arrives at 600 packing 1252 ft-lbs of energy. 30-08/180 Ballistic Tip started at 2800 arrives at 600 packing 1354 ft-lbs. Not a lot of difference, but the old veteran wins. Similar comparisons with 277/140 vs 308/165 end up favoring the '06 also. EE
 
man if anything is boring its the 06 every one and their dog owns one and they cant even do what other cals can if you want a 30 cal go with a 300 weather it be a win mag or a weatherby or a wsm
if you want a deer antalope gun go with the 270
if you want a gun that will kill anything get a 7 mag
look them up and compare
I killed more stuff with my 7 mag than any of my guns (other than 250 and 22)
you can shoot the barnes bullets load them wicked hot and can match a 300 for penatration and wound channel
what are your requirements for a gun if your looking for light look at the 270 short
if your looking for death get the 7 mag
if you want ease in finding bullets and BORING and just the what ever idea go with the 06
shoot all three decide what you need what you want and what you can handle and go from there
I personally will never give up a 7 rem mag they will do it all (anything better or comparable is a 300)
