7 MM Back Country

Very curious to see thoughts from others who have shot it as well!

Hopefully Omer has some answers. I have a feeling he has likely shot the most and a few different rifle offerings. I'd love to get behind one and shoot it but definitely not on the current list of must have projects as I have a few other rifles to finish first before I start looking at adding.

I had every intention of ordering one but with the tariffs they're hard to come across right now, i'll wait to get a tariff free one.
WeatherbyFan had one built I believe.

Precision Optics has ammo for $109/Box which is steep but thats also tariffed price. I guess ya gotta pay to play these days.

I wouldn't purchase a manufactured rifle, I would have it built. Moreover, the 277 Fury would come first, with a 27" barrel, 1-10 twist. If anyone has any insite on a bolt action to build on, let me know, along with brass cases with steel case-head and dies.

I'm still waiting to hear more about reloading. If it's not a pain, it'll be my next hunting rifle purchase. I was gonna get a big brother for my 7mm08 with this years tax return but the 7BC has me waiting to see if it can live up to the hype.

I've heard of some extraction issues with them. I'm still waiting to hear if they can be fired from a 280ai because apparently the case dimensions are the same.
No they're not the same. BC uses a 30 degree shoulder that starts closer to the base and the case length is a bit shorter. No idea if you can shoot 7bc in a 280ai chamber, or how the new "brass" would handle it, but looking at the below pics i think you'd end up with a really short neck if it's doable.

It looks like 7bc is *slightly* bigger diameter right before the shoulder as well - Ron Spomer lists .4585 at the shoulder, where 280ai is .454. Is .0045 enough to matter? I dunno. (It's also closer to the base on the BC though, so the taper may actually be the same?)

I'm still not sold on steel cases. Reloading is a big deal for me, and working with steel has taught me it's not very friendly to multiple uses. I guess we will see once more people have them though. If they sell enough of them, I'll bet someone will start making brass cases. - dan
Then it will just be a “ short necked “ 280 Rem :D

Yes I had an existing rifle rebarreled with a 24 #3 contour 1-8 twist Benchmark
The rifle has a Defiance Rebel action, Wildcat stock

So far it has great velocity, I’ve shot the 175gr Federal Fusions, 170gr Terminal Ascent and the 168gr LRX
Rifle weighs 8lbs 14oz scoped

Federal fusions adv velocity from 24” barrel 3125
I got 3080fps
168gr LRX adv velocity 3150 from a 24” barrel
I got 3092fps
170gr Terminal Ascent adv velocity from a 24” barrel 3150
I got 3106fps
This is a new barrel and should speed up slightly,
Recoil was very similar to a 7 PRC

The terminal ascent was the least accurate avg 1.25”-1.5”
The 175gr fusions and the 168gr LRX shot fairly well.

Have you heard anything about when cases and/or dies might be available?
