I spent a summer working in Calgary as a teenager and flushed quite a few of those little guys trekking through some of the old abandoned farms on my days off while chasing down prairie dogs to shoot and fishing some of the larger pothole ponds. I never had the opportunity to hunt Huns as season was of course closed in summer but they sure lookied like they would be fun hunting the way they explode out on flush. What kind of eating bird are they? Are they white or dark meat? What do they compare with in flavor would you say, grouse, pheasant, etc? Nice pics, sure are pretty little birds!

Been a while since eye've seen Hungarian Partridge.
Pretty birds.
I believe the males have the dark spot on their belly?
Kin to Chukars or vise versa.
Thanks for the photos.
Looky.

Late goose season opens in a few weeks, hopefully I can get out and it will hold me until Turkey.Had a great upland season last year hopefully this year can compare, still trying to go for the Ontario upland slam: all legal Upland game birds in one year, I missed ptarmigan, Huns, snipe, sharptails and spruceys last season.

The Ontario Game preserve season is open all year so I could be out after Pheasants whenever I want to, had people who wanted to try them in August one time.

Been out to Alberta twice to hunt them and hope to come back this fall with my teenage son. If I could hunt only one bird it would be huns. Great to watch a dog work them, challenging shooting and just plain fun as they always seem to flush at the most unexpexted times.

The biggest problem with those tasty partridge is that they don't weigh 20 lbs!!! Glad to see some around. The numbers in Southern Alberta appeared to be way down last fall and this winter sure isn't helping matters.

Biggest problem with these guys is that they are well within city limits....ah well, it's still great to see game birds when I'm walking the dogs. Usually just see magpies,
