7 Mystic Range Report w/ Pics

Thanks Jerry
What are you using for reloading dies?
The reason I asked about this cartridge is because Of the throat wear
by the 6.5-284 and I didnt want to spend another $160 .00 on custome dies
again .I love wild cats but the money I was spending on dies could be put
toward other more exiting things
regards

A few ways to deal with dies. First off you need a 7mm die to form the secondary shoulder so that you can move the shoulder forward. I have been using a 7BR FL sizer.

After fireforming, I use a 260Rem Lee collet die set. The collet die needs a shim which happens to be a commonly available 1/8" steel washer (1/2" or 3/8" diameter). Seating is done with the 260 seating die.

You can also use a Redding bushing 260 die for the neck sizing. Any 260 seater will work.

I design my wildcats around existing dies as much as possible. I too see no point in spending huge bucks for 'custom' dies.

Another way is to send fireformed cases and bullet to Lee. For $50US, they will make you a set of custom collet die set. I might do that someday so that I have a labled set of dies but for now the 260dies are working just fine.

I usually don't bother with FL sizing as brass life is excellent unless you go to 110%. If the base gets 'fat', you can run the brass through a '06 FL sizer. That should squeeze the base but leave the rest of the case alone. sizing back the shoulder usually isn't necessary because of the sharp shoulder and tight headspace. I would say annealing would be needed before a shoulder bump.

Jerry,

A standard '06 FL sizer die will contact the shoulder in the blown out case long before it touches the base, so the shoulder will be getting sized down as well. :(

Got a chance to try those CCI BR2 primers in some chilly conditions. A few degrees below zero, light gusting winds 5 to 8mph (est). Nice and clear day.

Same bullet, brass, powder. Just changed the primer and worked up again.

57.5gr 2867, 2838, 2855fps. Group not bad but velocity below what I want.
58.0gr 2889, 2865, 2877fps. Better accuracy.
58.5gr 2934, 2938fps. Groups opening up a bit
59.0gr 2960, 2986fps. Groups really opening up.

So like the H4831SC trial, 2850ish is good accuracy with the CCI primer. I was able to reach the 2950fps goal with very low ES but accuracy opened to 1/2 MOA (worth a retest for sure). Pity I didn't have some with the Fed 210M primer to test side by side. Next time.

Overall, the orig H4350, Fed 210M loads are best. As the weather warms up, I will get a chance to retest and shoot further to see if stringing is an issue.

Will keep this post updated.
