I am considering building a bolt action rifle chambered in 7 Rem Mag. I want to push the Berger 180 VLD's to at least 3,000 fps. What is the optimum barrel length for the 7 Mag? Will a 30" tube along with a healthy dose of Reloader 33 get me close?

The 7RM will work very nicely with the 180's... 26 to 28" barrel is plenty.

The 180gr VLD's flies best in the sub 3000fps speeds so there isn't a huge need to go warp 11.

Working on one for a customer right now.. should be a great set up out to 1 mile and more.

Built one a year or so ago, with both advice and a barrel from Jerry. Old 700 action that was accurized, 28" SS match grade barrel, bedded into a B & C fully adjustable stock. When it comes to long range, if Jerry offers some advice - take it.

Im running a 7-300wsm with 180 hybrids on a rem 700 long action with a 29" barrel. I'm getting 2950fps with reloader 25 without a problem had it up at 3000 but it shot better at 2950.

The 7-300 Win will do it at an idle, and is relatively painless as wildcats go. The STW is a sentimental favorite of mine for what must be getting close to 30 years now, and the 28 Nosler is a better STW than the STW is. 1-9 will do it, but I haven't found a downside to 1-8s.

I'd run a 28" if it were me. My brother has a Model 70 in 7RM wearing a 28" barrel built by Rocky Mountain Rifles and set in an A5 stock. It's a shooter.
