Hey guys.I am currently ordering parts for a custom built off of a tikka t3 action I would like to do a 7 Saum but brass avaliability seems to be difficult in the past I know adg just came out with brass but not sure when we will see it here. Looking for input on brass avaliability or should I look at a 7mm-300wsm?

The 7mm WSM shoulder is farther forward than the 300 or 270 WSM. This was done to prevent chambering 7mm WSM ammo in a 270 WSM. Unless you're talking Wildcat 7mm-270WSM. It is easier to make 7mm WSM brass using 300 WSM brass than to use 270 brass. You run 300 brass through a 7mm sizing die and it creates a false shoulder to headspace off of. However last month I found prophet river had a few boxes of 7mm WSM brass in stock. Hornady brass. I bought a few boxes of it. Very thick brass. I'll have to neck turn the stuff I bought.

You are entirely correct that the 7mm WSM is a different cartridge design. The 7mm WSM brass or ammo is just very hard to find at this time whereas either the 270 WSM or 300 WSM is somewhat easier to find. I though was talking about a 7mm - either 270 or 300 WSM. Straight neck up or down.

I wouldn't go with 7SAUM, I just got one and after seeing the cost of brass I can't understand why I bothered to get this rifle. Luckily it came with a 300WSM barrel as well and when my current supply of brass is done I'll be swapping it over to a cartridge I can buy reasonably priced brass for.
I have 50 2F and 50 new Nosler 300SAUM brass, I plan to make this one my hunting rifle though so the brass should last a few years
It's a discontinued cartridge, I doubt there will ever be enough interest for more brass manufacturers to jump in and start making it now. If they did they'd probably still charge the same redonkulous prices for it.
I've read that it's gaining popularity again but I really doubt it will be enough to revitalize the cartridge. Here's hoping though, I'd sure like to be able to buy brass for a price comparable to my 7 Rem Mag.

I have the remington model 7 in 7 SAUM. I also have enough brass for my needs.
I've read this before the need for brass, so I put a 7 WSM brass in my lathe and used nothing more than sandpaper 320 grit and fingers turned off .004 at the web in Diameter and you now have brass that can be resized to 7 SAUM. This can be done in a drill press as well.

I did manage to find some Norma 7 saum brass here in Canada. It is pricey which I don’t mind if the quality is there it always seems tough to get a straight answer on brass one guy loves it the next guy says it’s junk... might have to just bite the bullet and spend the money to see for myself thanks for all the feedback !
I just bought Nosler brass for my 7 Mag and if all Nosler brass is like this I won't be buying more of it. There were three pieces that the case mouth was damaged and all the brass looked slightly tarnished fresh from the box.
If I paid $100 for 25 pieces like the SAUM brass costs I would have sent it back for replacement.

Once you have an accurate load a few bags of brass from same lot is enough for me.
There is a reason WHY the brass is hard to find is because it is a very Accurate and Popular cartridge in USA.

Yeah, although I like Nosler bullets because they are good, Their service suck.
I once wrote them with some pictures of Accubonds bullets that had the plastic tips broken new in the box. 4-5 in a 50cts box.
They just replied that it: "wasn't worth the postage fees to send 4-5 bullets from here to Canada...Bye and good luck"
Is there something about it that makes it more accurate than other 7mm cartidges? Are you saying that if I bought two quality barrel blanks and had one barrel made for my 7 SAUM and one made for my 7 mag that the 7 SAUM would be more accurate then the 7 mag?
I also doubt that it could really be considered a "very popular" cartridge. More like there is just enough demand created by guys hanging on to it to create just enough demand that the couple sources of brass can't keep up resulting in the high cost. Brass is brass and once the tooling is built to create the various cases it doesn't cost any more for them to make these than it does for them to make 300WSM yet the cost of it is 1/4 the price of 300SAUM brass. That's simply demand and price gouging no more no less.
But then again maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it's as popular as you say which would be good as it would push more brass makers to start making it which would lower prices.
I think it's expensive because it's discontinued. The result is a shortage and since there is still a demand for it the price has become stupidly high.
It's weird that it was discontinued, what I've read so far sounds like the 7WSM was a more popular cartridge even though the SAUM was considered a slightly superior case design.
