7 STW & IMR 7977 experience?

Hey all, I've been having considerable trouble finding H1000 for my STW. I've used this and H4831 in the past and while H4831 works well with the lighter bullets, I found H1000 to be better with heavier stuff. Since I can't find H1000 and have no experience with H50BMG, US869, Retumbo, etc. (not that I can find those either), I picked up a can of the new IMR 7977 to try.

Anyone here have any first hand knowledge with this powder in this cartridge with 180's? Any insight is appreciated. And yes, I have seen the data on Hodgdon's site and intend to begin testing according to that, naturally.

Just wondered what others have found so far.

I have only tested it in my .300wm's with 215gr Berger's & had great success. I was also searching for a sub to match H-1000 powder.(Down to 4lbs ) And after testing numerous powder's found it to be as close to H-1000 as I could find. I have only tested 1 lb so far starting with temps in the +10's And will continue to test the powder as the temps get colder.. Sorry I couldn't be more help.....

Yeah, where's Dogleg when you need him? I believe I've read that he has / has had several STWs. Honestly, I wasn't expecting miracles - new powder in a cartridge that is not seen on every second Nut's shelf.

Only thing I can really do anyway is see how testing goes & determine whether or not I go buy another pound of the stuff.

Maybe, but another possibility is that many of them already have their loads. One thing you learn after burning out a few barrels is to quit wondering what else shoots.
