7 with the Model Seven

There's wolves where I hunt coyotes. Maybe that's why there isn't a lot of coyotes :) I've called in two over the years while targeting coyotes. These two were targets of opportunity when en route to a coyote set earlier this winter. Prone doesn't work for me so I have been packing shooting sticks, and now the Primos tripod

Oh yeah! That’s a beautiful thing right there. Well done. I have grand aspirations of having full body mounts of a huge black and grey standing guard on either side of the entry to my trophy room. The now silent guardians of the prey they once stalked in shadowed fringe lands.

I have two boxes of factory 40gr Vmax Federal ammo for 223. I might re-zero my rifle for these to try. It's currently shooting 69gr Sierra TMK. A few spots I hunt, shots are no more than 175 yards

That video reminded me I shot a crow years ago with my m700 LVSF 223 with the 40 Vmax and blew both the wings right off the body

Wonder how fast you could get those going in the 22 creed?

Your mission, should you choose to accept it......

I wonder if they’d blow up with a 7 twist. That’s crazy fast.

My Labradar only goes to 3900 fps :d or else I'd try. I've shot 53gr Nosler Varmageddon @ 3650 fps or so and they shot pretty decent in the 1:7. There's some guys shooting 12 twist 22CM's, usually with 55-60gr bullets though

40gr Vmax @ 4400 fps has same retained speed at 200y as a 80gr ELDm @ 3350 fps

I hand loaded some 40gr vmax with 25 gr RL 7 yesterday. Tripped the Labrador once in 6 shots. 3899. The rest were no reading. I didn’t shoot the 25.5gr loads.

Must be just over the 3900 threshold

I've only loaded 40gr Nosler BT with H335, pretty moderate 3250 fps from the short 16.1" Ruger m77 scout barrel. Shoots fairly well, just over 1moa 5 shot. Years ago I shot a coyote with that bullet from my 221 Fireball, about same MV as my short 223 makes. Did a great job at 300 yards, a few spins and it was down

Sighted in my Tikka CTR this afternoon with factory Federal 40gr Vmax ammo. 3666 fps avg on 10 rounds. Hopefully get a chance to try it on a coyote in March
