7 x 57 Brno

I think the people called it a Ranch because they were from Alberta. I suspect they've acclimatized by now.

Most tend to acclimatize fairly quickly, either that or they get the piss taken out of them fairly regularly.

Very Interesting thread
I hate to see it get burried
Here is my 21H
She's a carbine variant in 8X57 JRS
With the 21.5" barrel she is very easy to point and is ready for thick bush.
I can't get over how light she is. I suspect mine is an early model. The serial number is quite low.

Can't wait to take her hunting in October
Cheers friends

Riflechair, your Model 21 is of 1949 vintage, the same year as mine, you will note the date on the receiver (second picture).
Regards, J Stuart.

PS, I note that the most discerning gentlemen hunt with Model 21's, either that or we were simply plain straight out lucky.

What a beautifull rifle. That Bushnell scope would be better served on another rifle. Can you tell me anything about the rings and bases?

X2 Welcome to the Brno club Richard! First rule, no bushnells allowed!:p J/K

Those rings are real nice. If anyone knows who makes them please speak up!
Too bad the QD nuts are on the charging side, but a minor detail.

Is it restocked?

Congrats on the fine rifle.;)

Pretty grain in the wood for an origonal piece! Very nice.

Not to worry with the scope. A fine Euro scope is just around the corner for your new toy! LOL

Have you tried shooting it yet?

Those DST triggers are superb once one gets used to them.

Any brand markings on the scope rings Richard?

Noel

My 21H in 7x57 is also a 49. Got it yesterday, put a Burris 3-9x on it today. Beautiful guns! :D Remind me to post some pics.

Nice gun Riflechair. :)

Okay, you asked! POST SOME PICS BEFORE YOU FORGET!!!!!!:p

These "old" warhorses are popping up everywhere. It's great to see.

A true small-ring Mauser action, beautiful wood, and very accurate... what else can you ask for? :)

Gorgeous rifles... keep 'em coming!

I haven't got time to read this whole thread at the moment. I have to get out there and do some yard work to get ready for winter. My question is: is there a model with a single trigger and a detachable magazine in 7x57, if so, what am I looking for? Thanks for any help.

I believe / have been led to believe that the 21, 22 series could be ordered with a single trigger. The DST models can be converted but you must modify / replace the bottom metal reason being the DSTs are mounted into the bottom metal not like some other Mausers where the DSTs are a separate unit. The trigger guard also becomes an issue with the original having that extension.

IMHO don't screw up the original bottom metal, get another, remove the trigger guard etc. etc. & install the Brno trigger guard.

I don't think any came with a removable mag.

Original commercial Oberndorf Mausers also have mounted the DSTs directly into the bottom metal, can't think of any others.

These rifles also could be ordered with a factory scopes strictly for the dove-tail models, I' m fortunate to have one, they are quite scarce. The rings are permanent on the scope and part of a one piece mount, very quick removal / installing arrangement. FWIW --- John303.

Ok. Question #2. Is there a great donar rifle to make one purdy looking and light weight DM rifle in 7x57 out of? I have a few donars, are they acceptable? They are Browning Micro Medallion in 308 and Browning BLR in 308 or 7mm-08. Will the DM's accept the 7x57 cartridges? Ok, if these are not useable for such a project, is there another great canidate rifle out there? I just want a repeater in 7x57. I love my Ruger No.1AB, but I'd like something different, too! just cuz!

I would suppose any rifle with a 30-06 base dia., as are your 08s could be re-barreled to 7x57 the only other thing would be magazine length. There are several Mauser style actions also suitable, the hang up is the DM. I see Tradeex has 30-06 DMs for Mauser 98s in 06 length so a 7x57 should work OK - anybody tried one? Put an add on EE anf see what happens.
