Can anyone out there venture an educated guess as to what price a 70' series Colt Gold Cup in .45 Auto, all original with the factory issue target sights, trigger and grips, about 200 rounds through it but minus the original box would go for? I have one at my option to buy and the overall condition is such that it has only slight handling marks on the slide but otherwise all excellent and the action is as issued very tight. There is also an extra mag from that period being an original Colt mag.I have been informed that these are now quite scarce as many of these were used for the basis of building highly customised comp or race guns and were literally canabalized to that end.I have yet to fire it but have been told by the owner and my buddy that they were highly regarded and sought out for their target grade accuracy and the fact that the newer 80' series are a real pain in regards to the upgrades Colt made on them.

The Gold Cups were designed for light target/Bullseye loads and have some design differences that make them less desireable for IPSC race/comp guns. While I have turned a few of these into race guns, I'd say you were better off starting with something else, and leaving the Gold Cup as is.

As just one example of why you should not race a Gold Cup ... the existing target sights, front and back, will NOT stand up to IPSC loads for long. They WILL fall off.

You will pay $1,000 - $1,200 now for a excellent condition Series 70 Colt Gold Cup National Match... If you can get it as described for less than $1,000 you will have done very well. ;)

I don't think this is a true of Series 70 and 80 Gold Cups. The lightened slide was done away with sometime earlier.
