700 LTR or T3 Tactical in .223?

Lots of guys using 68gr.-69gr. match bullets from 20" barreled AR's at 600 yds. without much difficulty. The Tikka may well give you the edge just due to the extra velocity of the longer barrel. However, the Tic Tac is at least $500 more than a LTR. That's a lot of bullets, powder, and primers, or extra money for some decent glass.

The guy hasn't really said it, but the LTR would be more useful if he plans on doing some hunting with it as well over punching paper.

yes I know that but out of the two the 223 LTR vs the 223 T3 the T3 "should out do the LTR at greater ranges with it faster twist rate, the 77gr's will do MUCH better in the wind;)

AB69,I hate you and your discount ammo:runaway: :dancingbanana: just kidding

The Tikka Varmint .223 HB sells for around 1000$, about the same price as an LTR...I wouldn't spend an xtra $600 for ''the Tactical'' title..

The Tik Tac feels anything but cheap...The trigger is icy crisp. And for a factory tuned shooter oem...Ya just can't do better IMHO. I like the idea of a working and customizing the gun so my vote is for the Remmy with a box mag conversion first up.

The only reason i wouldn't get the tikka is there is less aftermarket acc. and what you can get is expeensive. Out of the box the Tikka for sure would be awesome.

2 biggy about the Tikka:

1) Magazine fed
2) Free Floating barrel..

LTR has a free floating barrel. A few years back they also had a detachable mag version but they were susequently dropped from the product line due to relatively poor sales and reliability issues with the mag system.

The det. mag thing is a pure matter of preferene of course. I personally, could care less for one on a bolt gun where the pace of shooting is generally slow and single feeding along the internal mag follower is how I do most of my bench/field shooting.

Re-sale would favour the Remmy. We're kind of comparing apples to oranges here anyway. A more direct comparrison would be 700P/VSF to Tikka Varmint.

A 6.5x55mm Tikka would be a very interesting combination for me.

And,,
3) the stock is adjustable:
- LOP with spacers, and
- cheek piece
4) picatinney rail installed
5) threaded muzzle

My thoughts on the T3 Tac.
- it is a well thought out design for a lightweight precision shooter, ideally suited for the urban environment or for shooting out to around 500m.
- just add rings, optics and a bipod and you have your completed weapon system.
- the magazine functions flawlessly. Get two. There are times when you will need a fast follow-up shot. A dependable detachable mag system for the M700 may cost as much as the rifle.
- the stock has multiple attachment points for slings and other items.
- the action is slick, very slick. Feeding from the mag is slick, very slick.

I'd go for the T3 just for the twist of the barrel but then again I could get a savage and rebarrel it to a 1:7" twist. I have a Rem 700 in 308 as my current target rig but I'm not really a Rem 700 fan, it's just that they have so many good aftermarket bits like the AI stock.

Varmint

Yeah exactly the varmint is basically the same gun but it's stainless and does'nt have an adjustable cheek peice. I would go with the varmint over the Tactical to save the extra $550.

I will have to see if I get the spare cash. WSSP isn't getting in any untill the Spring I was told. I will get a shirt though.

I've had my 24" Tikka Tactical for almost a year. I've put 850 rounds through it. The adjustable trigger is beautiful, the action is very, very smooth and it still shoots 68 and 75 gr BTHP's into a twoonie at 300yds. At 100 I'm at <0.4MOA for six shots.

I had a problem with the lips on the plastic mag recently. They started to wear out from so many rounds and the tilt on the cartridge was not letting the bolt pick up going forward. I took a file to the edges and 'wore' them evenly, and flipped the mag spring so that it pushed more on the rear of the cartridge. It works.

I can't compare the Remington and Tikka, but my Tikka's been a great little rifle. Heavy in the field tho.....

:)
