I'm wondering what base you guys recommend for my Remington 700 on an AISC stock. Are there long models? I'd like room to move the optic around if needed.

For the amount I shoot I don't need the best money can buy but I'm not looking for bargain basement either. What brand, model and a dealer that stocks them please.

Eventually I'll be mounting a Falcon Menace 5-25x 56 on it.

Ken Farrell and EGW make bases for around $100. Above that you are looking at the $200 range for a Near or Badger or nightforce.

I have used the Farrell and the EGW and like them both.

I would recommend a Farrell base as well. His customer service is great as are his products. I have his base on my LE2B. The only caution is that his bases tend to be thicker than others which can pose some difficulty with proper cheek weld on rifles with fixed cheekpieces.

I can offer you bases from Farrell, Millet (heat treated alum pic rail) and Promag (steel full pic rail). The Farrell is a partial pic rail but shouldn't be an issue as when are you ever going to mount rings 1" apart for a scope?

visit my website and you can see a pic of the Farrel base. I will post pics of the promag/millet when I get my hands on them.

the millet and promag are dirt cheap and should be well made.

Forgot, that I can also offer Leupold Mk4 bases - well made and more money then any of the above. Still less then the NEAR, NF, etc.

It isn't how close I can mount the rings but how much room I'll have to play moving the rings forward/back.

I tried a Falcon 5-25x56 last week and with the picatinny base that was on it I wasn't able to get the propper eye relief. On that base the option wasn't there to move the rings an inch back (the Falcon has a wider part of the body where the turrets are).

A full length rail would give me more options where I could place the scope for eye relief is my thought.

If the scope has to be moved that close to you to get proper eye relief, you may get scope rash while firing it. Also, with rings so close together, is the scope tube properly supported?

I'm not sure if I'm explaining right.

If you've seen the FM scope it has a large "block" where the turrets are. On the rifle I tried with it last week the "block" makes the rings sit in a certain spot.

Because of the partial rail the scope couldn't move back far enough for our eye. We had to push our heads forward in an uncomfortable spot towards the scope to get propper eye relief.

With a full length rail I believe the optic could be positioned propperly.
