Hey all, just started here a cgn and awesome crowd here. Thought id show you my work with my rem 700 sps tac in 308 with a 20in barrel. Im running bushnells tactical elite DMR with their G2 retical. I love this scope. It is a giant peice of glass but imo its worth the dollar. I have been running hand loads on it for about 4 months now and finally came upon a load that is probably the best of litter. Now my last shot is the one on top, I had to rush it because of a impatient shooter wanting to post targets. It measured.7 at its widest and. 45 at its smallest. A dime covers it and I'm happy with that lol.
Load:
168gr SMK
Federal brass and primer
Vhirtovi (ill spell it any way I can say it lol) 135
Velocity unknown. Didn't bring my chrony.
Now I would say the charge and OAL but my computer took a dive and I had all my load data on it. Pen and paper from now on.
Thanks for viewing!

Note: the picture of rifle has its old bushnell glass on it.

Ive tried to tell people on this site that a factory SPS is capable of groups like that and they came out with pitch forks and torches ... Looks great , thanks for posting

Rem 700 ... best factory rifle on the market

Nice!

And as far as saving data goes, I back everything up on 3 hard drives. It might sound like over kill but, like you've found out, one you lose data it doesn't seem like it anymore.

well the wicked awesome part to keeping load data is that I use a white board when Im doing loads. And thank god I found it the recipe!!
it was 37gr of Vhirtouvi 135 and OAL was 2.800 +/- of about .002.
and yes a remy in my opinion is the finest you can buy with out having the "better half" bug you all day long hahah! the glas was I admit 2x the cost of the rifle but you cant argue a good scope.
I do want to try another rig I was thinking savages are a good piece to look in to.

The SPS-TAC's are certainly capable out of the box Remingtons. Lots of people think that Remington has reallyl sucked in the quality control department as of late. Granted it is more than possible to get a lemon, but I've been lucky and got a real gem in .223. I don't have any pictures to prove it, but while working up a load two weeks ago, it was able to acheive .3 MOA at 200 yards. And I am by no means a professional shooter.

I keep a spreadsheet of my load data, so that I can graph accuracy nodes. But I definitely keep a backup.

Good shooting!

Very nice shooting!! :)
The Remington 700 is still a tough choice to beat.
I also have been very pleased with my M700 rifles, both older and newer ones.

As good as that is, I don't consider one grouping to be concrete evidence.

Do that 5 times over, and then yes, you have a great gun.

Either my gun isn't that good, or likely my skill doesn't match the gun, but I can only muster around .7-1 MOA 5, 5 shot groups. It has shot .23 MOA 3 shot group before, but once again that's not a good represenation of it's capability.

Went out this weekend with KJP and he shot his first group at about .4-.5. But couldn't repeat it. Still a very accurate gun out of the box (5R), but not .25-.5 like many say their guns are.
