I was lucky enough to find my dads old deer rifle (stashed away in the storage bin). Hopefully will take it deer hunting this fall. Where we hunt most shots are under a hundred yards. Any sugestions as far as factory ammo goes-bullet types - various mfg's Thx for your help.

You didn't even read what I said I don't own any Remington's As far as the post goes for my dads 30-06 that's the first 30-06 I've ever owned. As far as the Mauser post goes you obviously didn't read it or understand it.

You may have read the post but you didn't understand it. I'll put it in a nutshell for you. Is every bolt rifle basically a Mauser design since it was his originally.....

No every bolt action is not a mauser.If the rifle does not use the original mauser design including the mauser claw and controlled round feed system.it is not a mauser.Unless of course the actual Mauser company sells it.:D

That doesn't make every bolt action repeating rifle a mauser,especially since his first repeater used a tubular magazine which didn't work out well and was dropped.By the time the famous 1998 mauser was invented there were already several bolt action repeating rifles on the market.

By that thinking, the Mauser must be a Chassepot or a even a Dreyse Needle fire, since it is a Bolt action.

So, if it is a bolt action, it must be a Chassepot.:dancingbanana:
 
I will repsond with the exact answer I gave on the Mauser post that you didn't repsond to.

Does this type of logic make sense?

I prefer actions that are similar to Mausers adaptation of the Chassepot rifle, like WInchesters and Rugers, but I do own a couple of 700's, of course.:)
