700g mold

hi been looking for a 700g mold for a s&w 500. tried nei and moutain molds, have had no success. any other sources you guys know of?

Go over to the "castboolits" website. "Miha" just completed a Group Buy on those big boys and might have extras for sale.

Mountain Molds made my 400, 440 and 500 grain moulds for my 500 S&W and you get to design your own mould on his interactive web site.

tried makin my own but cant fit more than 670g in his molds....that would be alright but if i am ordering a mold i'll keep looking for a 700g mold.....here on the island it's go big or go home....lol

Go paper patch and get Kal Tool and Die in Winnipeg to build you and adjustable that goes up to 860 Grain.

Ken.

They make an excellent product, but are quite expensive. Not the same, and not as heavy, but for about $75, RCBS makes an adjustable "N/S Skirmish" lube-grooved mold in 50 cal that can produce bullets in the 350-550 gr range that size down nicely to 0.502".

Another vote for Miha just got mine yesterday - sweet brass mould - with hollow point capability.

I have the same one and several from NOE. Although NOE is excellent, I place Miha well above them in quality, ease of payment, price and turnaround time.

Anyone interested in bullet casting, and specifically custom molds, needs to become a member at "castbollits" and familiarize themself with the Group Buy Forum.

I cast a few Flat Points with WW + 2% Tin, and they came out at 680gr (unchecked and unlubed) and at 0.5015". This is pretty much exactly where they should be - 20grs under seems like it's a lot, but it's only about 3%, and my alloy has a fair bit of "non-lead" in it.

The bullets drop nicely once the mold is heated up, and that takes a LONG time, so be prepared to cast a bunch at each sitting. The bullets drop well from the mold, but I had to re-tighten the sprue plate screw about every five bullets until I noticed that it has a set screw (dummy). This is a very nice mold and I will buy many more from them - quality, price, and speed of delivery are all excellent.

The second pic shows a cast bullet, seated 0.100" off-the-lands (2.500" OAL) for my NEF Handi-rifle, and then the Lee 440gr where I seat it at an OAL of 2.275". Very little powder space is taken up, as I can seat it out as far as I want, unlike with a revolver. In fact, I can seat it to 2.575 behind a driving band, and crimp in in place (once I get a crimp die). I'm going to try a full case of BLC-(2) and a few full or near full cases with other powders between it and IMR-4198 in burn rate.

Accurate Molds also does custom orders for no price difference than if you order from their catalogue.
They have this 680gr .500" mould in their catalogue:

My two favourite loads are:

- a full case of BL-(C2) - mild and accurate; and
- a full case of H4198 - stout and accurate.

I abandonned use of a full case of the Higginson's WC-735 - was shaking my teeth loose.
