Hello Gents,

Got these monsters in the mail from our own Ben Hunchak. Ben did a great job with these as they were a real PIA to cast.

In the first pic, from right to left: a 240gr 44MAG (for comparison), then a 350gr hollow point, followed by a 500gr flat point and finally the big boy 700gr hardcast.

Then some loaded rounds for even more silliness :50cal:





I really hope these monsters are gonna fit in the Encore ;)

Been done already! Here's how fast.

These are some loads I used in my NEF Handi-Rifle in 500 S&W (22" barrel) with the MiHec 700gr:

OAL 2.575"

IMR4198 - 40.0 grs (full) - 1450 fps
WC-735 (a Higginsons surplus ball powder a bit faster than H335) magnum primer - 50.0 grs (slightly compressed) - 1550 fps
BLC-(2) magnum primer - 48.0 grs (full) - 1200 fps

The 1550 fps load was PAINFUL.

My experience has been that you can use a full case of IMR or H4198 and any powder slower, with bullets up to 700 grs. I wouldn't go any slower than powders in the BLC-(2) - Varget range. I use a magnum primer only with the ball powders.

I use IMR4198 in almost all of my 44 cal and larger cast bullet loads - from 44-40 and 45 Colt, to 45-90.

Lol - I would but I would have to get a BFR in 500S&W - there is a group buy over on cast for a 826gr mould....the X frame cylinder is too short for that weight...

You'd lose 150-200 fps, but I can't imagine using them in a revolver. If I used the 700 gr in a revolver, I'd stick to no more than about 1000 fps and with something like SR4759, Lil'Gun or the BLC-(2) - I don't use H110 except for full power loads.
 
It's another great design from LBT, the large cavities in a standard size block of quality aluminum, require close temperature control while casting, heats very quickly and cools just as fast. Sizing was done on a Star w/air pressure, nose first sizing to maintain concentricity. I look forward to more posts on loading/shooting this monster.
