New to reloading and have a 700P with 26 inch barrel in 308.

I am looking for some load sugestions on what works well with this rifle.

Looking to get into shooting well at 100 to 300 yards before I aim out to 600 to 900 yards.

Have a Redding Big Boss and Redding dies. I have some once fired Federal brass and Sierra 168 grain Matchkings with Federal Match Primers to start out with but am certainly open to test a lot of whats out there to see what works best.

Was just curious as to what works for someone else with this package.

Thanks,
D

D: What's the twist on your 700? I was under the impression (from another thread about this topic I started) that the twist for the 700P would be better suited to maybe 155 gr bullets?

1 in 12 twist.

Am I too heavy for that twist?

I am open to try all sorts of loads but want to be set in a certain direction before I jump into it.

Thanks,

I had a Remington 700p ("had" I have swapped out the barrel since)

It liked 168grn Sierra matchkings. I used 42.0 grns of IMR 4895 with great results.

Hornady's 150grn BTSP #3033 also worked great with IMR 4895

My new barrel is 1 in 11.25

I still using my remaining 168grn matchkings with 42.0 grns of IMR 4895, but I am switching to Varget and 175grn Matchkings.

The 1-12" twist should be just fine for those 175's. If you choose the 168, you should be aware that it is a 600 yard but not a 900 yard bullet in the 308. BC is not optimum. The 154 Lapua and the 155 Sierra bullets are worth considering. N540, N550, Varget and Reloder 15 all worth trying as well. Regards, Eagleye

If you go for the light bullet, the 154 scenar is the way to go.
In regard to the 175smk or 178Amax no problem at all, actually some guys shoot the 190smk out of the rem with no problem.
1 in 12" is not a problem.

I shoot all of the above at 600m or 1000yds

155gr Amax, 47grs Varget, Winchester primers, Lapua brass = lots of VBulls out of my Rem 700p. I've set mine up as a single shot rifle, so my OAL per round is 2.927.
