700P 338 Lapua

A 24 inch .338 Lapua !...

Can it can burn all the powder in that short tube?... I doubt it... some of the powder is now projectile...

Do you bolt faces look like this... Remington sent me this picture about a year ago...

We also received our shipment of these 700 Police 338 Lapua's and are exactly like the info posted previously. All guns are sold to customers with previous orders in the order they came in so if you didn't get a call we ran out before we got to you. Ours also sold for $1499. No news on when the next shipment will arrive. I have posted some pics so everyone to view because the last gun I have will soon be picked up. Glockamaniac...apparently I wasn't lying about getting these guns after all LOL. Phil.

New longer barrel, true the action, bed, tune the trigger and you've got yourself a 338 Lapua that is built on a solid platform, and still affordable.

The bolt faces look like what Phil posted the side of the bolt looks like this

Running the caliper all over this action , I can not find any differences from a 700P in 300RUM, other than the boltface and extractor.

In answer to your other question about buning all the powder, NO!!

I just had to see how these stack up to what I build, the 12" fireball at the muzzle is most impressive and the recoil with a 250 gr is stout and sharp to say the least.
I am not used to recoil like that, all my guns are heavy and tame to shoot
I imagine that my extra 9lbs of gun and far more aggressive brake is the result of the lack of recoil my gun has when compared to the 700p 338LM

That must be the one - it looks good. Once again, P&D comes through with the goods. See you on Saturday. Thanks Phil.

So, what are the expected performance limitations with this 24" barrel ? Certainly there will be increased muzzle flash (although some powders like RL 25 may burn more efficiently than others in a short barrel?) and some reduced velocity when compared to a longer, say 27" barrel, but in the arena of long range shooting, what are the implications (real-world or otherwise) to this short barrel length ?

I would think RL25 would be too slow still for these, possibly H4831 would be fast enough to elimnate the flash, and still keep velocities reasonable.
As for how they will perform, that at this time is anyones guess.
Real world differences will depend wholly on what a person considers "long distance", here we figure 1000 yards to be pretty close range, so I believe it would make a big difference, for most however they should work fine.

As Longdraw points out they still make a decent platform to build a true long range rig on.

OMG, what a POS brake. As I said earlier, Rem should have just put on a threaded 26" pipe and left the brake off for shooter install.

The first order of business, get a better brake or at least drill all the holes ALOT bigger. At least this way, the fireball can be useful.

I love that it has a D mag. That is a great feature.

However, since there really isn't any real difference in action size, I would grab another action for cheap and put on a match quality pipe of decent length plus a much better brake design.

Velocity loss can be quite severe but there is only one way to find out.

My SWAG would be the 250gr would come in around 2850fps and the 300gr 2700fps. Handloading with the factory action will likely not improve things much given there is some play for sure.

I commend Rem for finally getting such a 700 made. Well done.

Wouldn't surprise me if the engineers had it done before lunch and the legal dept took another few years to get it sorted out.

I just called Epps, wanted to buy one. I was told that it's sold out, and the price posted on the website (1150$) is wrong, and the actual price will be 1499$. He also told me that the rifles did get sold for 1150$, so someone got very lucky. New shipment is expected in a month or so. Even at 1500$ its still a very good deal IMO.
As for ammo, their cheapest ammo is 77$ for a box of 10. Remington started making .338 ammo too, and it will be available for sale in late summer - early fall, at about 80-90$ per box of 20, which is very cheap for .338LM

I guess i'm the one who bought the last rifle:dancingbanana:, I think I will get it bedded and a trigger job done. I think i'll shoot it with the barrel like it is , however probally will rebarrel it at some later time. I'm in the process of buying some brass, ammo and bullets. Thankfully Peter Dobson is nearby, so shipping won't be a problem. Is Epps a good place to get it bedded?

Not 100% sure on costs, but I figure it would be closer to 3K than 2K to build a similar rifle

Gunboy; isn't your real name, ####?? When the thread about the Remington 338 Lapua was talked about, none of these rifles were in our country. Not even YOUR cousin could smuggle one in... The Remington 338s all landed pretty much everywhere at the same time. I'm glad that so far, 4 of the 10 landed in Alberta. At least the Quebecers didn't snag them all. I think we finally have a straight up contact at Remington that's willing to work with us Westerners. With this particular gun, lighter the bullets the better; at least with the factory barrel.

No, not ####, but I know what your are TwoFace!, let just end at that, I am sure you know what I mean!
if I wanted something here I get it,doesn't need any Causin to smuggle anything in.

Two faced? Please elaborate. No No seriously....I want to hear this one.

And to stay on topic with the thread....will be interested to see how they do compared to the ones I am use to seeing sling lead.

Sheeesss ! Back to the thread boys.....

As it is, these rifles are an inexpensive way into the 338 LM, for those of us who want to 'give it a go'. If it surpasses my fondness of the 300 RUM in 'my' real world application, then this will become a reasonable platform warranting a new barrel. If not, I haven't sunk the kids college fund into it, so no biggie.
