700P 338 Lapua

TRG is just a factory rifle with a factory barrel.

700P Rifle $1500
New CM 338 1:10 twist Kreiger barrel $420
Smithing (Lap and true up action, chamber & thread) $350
Custom Brake: $250
Bedding $50-150
Robertson Stock complete $650

Sell the factory barrel $200
Sell the factory stock ?-150?

I dunno, that works out to around 3 grand. The cheapest 338 TRG 42 sells for $3300 and that is just a stock factory rifle.

The issue is, why spend 1500 for the rifle when you can buy a custom action for under a grand if you're going to customize, but the fact remains, if you buy one of these guns, you have many incremental steps you can take to turn a factory gun into an amazing custom gun for less money than a TRG 42

I agree, but then some guys are happy to drive stock vehicles. Personally if I can gain some performance from a gun or a truck I am all in.

My 338LAI spits 300 gr SMKs at 3050 fps I doubt that a standard 338 Lapua would get much more than 2850 with the same bullets.
We found that the 300s have a far better trajectory than the 250s do as well.
That's quite a lot more increase. Usually the Ackleys tend to get 50-150 fps improvement. If you can better that, it's worth the effort then. I agree about that 300grs. My choice too.

Mine is still waiting for a scope and a few final reloading components....

However, I understand Rick from ATR took a M700P 338 LM to the Summerland shoot IIRC. I suppose that is a good of a review as anyone can give. How did it do ?

I did take 1 to the Summerland shoot last weekend, but did not get a chance to see how it shoots. Jerrys shoot was well put on, but had no options for 100 yard work and I did not want to mess with his shoot.
Maybe this weekend if all goes well.

But Buying a custom action and put together youself won't save any money any way, you more than likely spend around $5000-6000 at lease, you best bet is get the TRG42 and keep everything, shooted and if wanted a tighter twist later , than get a 1in10 twist..

Or else wait and get yourself a Rem700PSS in 338 lapua, keep everything except the barrel...

Why so much? Please fill in the blanks...

Action -
Barrel -
Stock -
Labour -

Well custom Gun are no cheap, The only one that I considered to be in a good and Fair price are the TRG42, HS Precision, right around the 3000-4000 range in 338 lapua,

labor ain't cheap when you wanted custom!.

There are a lot of gunsmiths that can build you a better gun than the factory rifles for less money...

The biggest expense will be the action.. You can buy that for less than $1500, add a good barrel and the labour and a brake - less than $1000, add a quality stock for less than $1000... that's a far cry from "Buying a custom action and put together youself won't save any money any way, you more than likely spend around $5000-6000 at lease"...

I agree, even if you get a Sako LA for around the $700-$800 mark and by the time you put everything together, it will be around over $3000 mark, my point is that getting the TRG is not a bad ideal,

Action $800 Sako LA
Barrel $500
Stock $800-$900 Mcmillan or AICS
Muzzle break $250
Labour -$500-600 at lease
Base &Ring
Waiting time, you figure it out!

so Buying a TRG42 in 338 Lapua in not a bad ideal for a Starting out rifles.

YOU can save some money if you get a different stock other then the Mcmillan or AICS.

not sure about your labour Its a bit high. I had my 700 done it was alot less.

Guntech is right. There are a lot of gunsmiths that can build you a better gun than the factory rifles for less money...

Oh, don't get me wrong, I have one done also with a rem700La in 300wm, but the Rem700 La is still a stock action, and there is nothing wrong with that, but for something like the 338 Lapua magnum, I am looking at something like the Sturgis action, there one quote I got from Edmonton area was around $2400 mark just for an action. and for that price , I believe going the TRG42 wouldn't be a bad Ideal, but at the moment, I am not sure what to do... maybe 338 rum is not a bad ideal either!
$500-600 is price that I got a quote from Gunsmith in the Area...

I been trying , but it still pretty hard to come by, I am going to talk to JOES P, he know what to do for an action, other than that I might just go with the TRG42 or Wait for a rem700PSS ....

YET, Very Interesting, THankyou! Johnl

do they sell it to canadian or I have to look for Dealer up here?
