700P 338 Lapua

Saw it... the newbie with 0 posts asking $500 over retail. I wish him well.

The same rig here NIB is $1840.00 plus gst
Stock rifle is $1500.00
Rail is $140.00
Bedding and trigger work $200.00
We guarantee the rifles to be free of defect, as we go over them very closely and test fire each rifle before bedding or altering the rifle in any manner which does void the factory warranty.

I think the fellow who owns the 1 in the EE for sale does not realize that despite the low round count, it is still a used rifle, with no factory warranty now due to the modifications being done.

Impulse buying, especially something rather niche market, from a retailer whose clerks know very little about the product can be a costly experience.

Actually the SAKO TRG42 did ok with the 300 grain Sierra BTHP, I was at Calgary last week, had a change to try out buddy TRG42, it did a very good group(alittle bigger than 2inchs) at 500meter, we never had a change to shoot farther than that, but I am very impress with the rifles, the power for the load was Hodgdon US 869, so I don't believe what people say about 300grain is only good in 1in10, because his rifles I believe was 1in12...

The fireball at the muzzle must have been spectauclar with the 26" tube.
I find it hard to believe that 1 in 12 will stabilize the 300s properly.
Every rifle, and there have been many, that we have shot with less than a 10 twist barrel would not stabilize 300s well at all, but each rifle is a different story.
Let us know what results are at longer distances, 500 mtrs is still real close range for a 338 Lapua.

Here are some 200 metre groups with 250 scenars I am testing. The sweet spot with this load is around 2850 fps +/-. When I get over 2900 fps, groups start opening up. Although I am having very much fun with my 700P 338LM, in the back of my mind I am starting to think of a new barrel. With a, say, 28" barrel, what would you suggest as the ideal twist for the 300 SMK ? Does barrel length at all influence the twist rate one would use ?

Go with 1:10 twist. It works extremely well with 250's and 300's.

500 meter is really close for 338 lapua, but it a good distance to start finding a good load, with the same rifles he did a little over haft an inch at 200meter, and 2 inchs at 500meter is way better than most can do!
and the TRG42 is 27inchs in the 338 Lapua!

I have read some custom 338 builders are experimenting and having good success with faster twists like 1-9.5" or so with the 300 SMK's. But yes, the 1-10" appears to be the most flexible in terms of both 250's and 300's.

E-mail this guy "bullett33@hotmail.com" if you want aluminium tipped 265gr or 285gr 338 cal bullets. He is in the states. So it might be up to you to arrange the shipping. BC's are in the 850 to 900 range.

LMAO!

Well I knew that! :D :D

Despite the err....set backs I heard you'd flown a few?
Perhaps you could pm me?

He gave me some 350 grainers that looked like miniature 750 gr Amaxs, aluminun tip and all, they looked GREAT, unfortunately he used a jacket that was too thin, of the 20 we shot about 3 actually made it to the target before turning into a blue cloud.
Last I spoke with him, he told me he knew this may occur and that thicker jackets were forth coming. That was a year ago.
ABC has also given us some of their bullets to test, they also look great and being solid machined bullet will not come apart, just have not had time to try them yet.

We build all of our 338LAIs and Edges with 9.5 or 9.4 twist barrels specifically for using the 300 and bigger bullets.
And are having GREAT successwith them.
The 1 in 10 is adequate for 300s and probably optimum for 250s, but I believe that bigger 338s will be coming as the true potential of this caliber is still being explored.
I have some 325 gr bonded bullets from Wildcat that went to Africa, I can state with 100% certainty, they work!!
At 550 yards I got over 5 feet of penetration, the bullet I retrieved weighs 313 grs and is slightly bigger than 1 inch in dia.

ELLWOOD EPPS have a couples of rem700 338 Lapua instock for under $1400, that Pretty good price for the Rifles!
