I'm wondering which models of 700 were/are chambered for 222 Rem?

For some reason, I'm thinking specifically of the 700 BDL?

Who likes/uses the 222 as a gopher defence round?

I have a 222 ADL 24" heavy barrel, that pretty hard to beat at 100 yards, they made them in BDL as well, I looked through Remingtons 2007 catologue and they show no 222 in any action produced for 2007.
I remember shooting hunter class in 70s and they where plugging holes to 30cal, the .308s did not beat the deuce, and even today with the 6ppc & 6br at 100 yards the deuce will do fine in the right hands. I know the 6mm is better at 200 yards

My dad's Rem 700 in .222 is a BDL(?), has a floorplate. Raggged hole groups at 100yards. Has a bull barrel and a 12X weaver that he mounted when he bought it in the 70's.

they made the BDL up until last year. I tried to find one, couldnt, then tried to find a CZ 527 American in 222, which I couldnt - so I bought a CZ 527 in 221 Fireball, which is another cool lil cartridge that nips on the heels of the deuce

You know, thinking back now, I learned more about field shooting (offhand at small live targets) with this than any other rifle cartridge.

The first year I purchased my Remington 788 rifle in Northern Ontario(1988), I learned two things in the small game season there:
1/222 is too destructive on bush bunnies at normal hunting ranges in the bush.
2/222 at the correct range can kill a wolf.

When I moved to Southern Saskatchewan, this small centrefire REALLY earned it's place in the rifle rack!
Took in-numerable gophers, maybe 1/2 dozen snowshoehares (re-learned an old lesson) at least one to one hundred fifty jackrabbits, at least 6 foxes, 10-12 coyotes, one beaver in Alberta, and the past mentioned single wolf in Ontario.
As well, 97% of the time, it was bang-flop!

With its short locktime and adequate barrel length, plus Leupold optics, I got alot of trigger time in the so called "off season."
Too boot, all in the beautiful outdoors, getting fresh air and exercise, with this rifle slung over my shoulder, and had lots of fun.

I have a Rem 700 ADL ,no drop plate, synthetic stock 223Rem with a Bushy 3.5X20 cheap ass scope on it . I can hit a cambells small soup can lid at 100 yards dead center.

I need to find a longer range to shoot at or raise my elevation .

Bob:)

Remington offered the 222 in the 722, 700ADL, 700BDL, (plus Heavy barrelled variants) 700 Classic, 600, 40X and the 788. I have owned at least one of each, and at present have a 788. The 222 tends to deliver sterling accuracy in practically any rifle it is chambered in. My only poor shooting 222 was a Sako (very unusual), and even it would shoot around 1¼" consistently. Problem is most 222's will do quite a bit better with loads they like. My present 788, using the 50 V-max and old Reloder 12 or the 50 Ballistic Tip and W748, will often turn in a ¼" five shot group. The rifle averages an honest ½ moa if I do my part. FWIW, this rifle has now taken 3 wolves and at least 20 coyotes. Crows definitely hate it! Regards, Eagleye.

I have a 700 BDL in 222 Rem, great round, great gun, accurate that is for sure.
With Standard Winchester 50gr rounds, I get a little over a nickel groups at 100 yards and with the handloads my uncle made for it back in the day I had dime size 5 shot groups, too bad I have no recipe and have not had the time to sit down and reload in about a year.

Old Sako in mint shape and a CIL 830/Sav 340 in .222 About a dozen WT's and 3 bear. And every varmint smaller ...................Harold

Don't overlook the Rem 788 in .222. They are good shooters. I was on the hunt for one, but found a 788 in .223 instead. Go figure. :)
