740,742,7400,750 club

As much as I'm not a fan of auto-loading hunting rifles I DID in fact own one for a brief period of time. This one I bought of John Brennan on here and it was my first CGN/internet purchase. So I guess you could say this little Fudd Machine gun turned me into a Gun Nut :) .

It's a 742 Deluxe in .308 and I gotta say I hammered 40 rounds out of it and didn't get so much as a hick-up...

It lets me know after about 40 that its time to clean.

I went to a spray Moly for mine, I have done over 80 rounds (fairly rapid) in a session without a hiccup, a couple hundred without a major cleaning, funnily enough, mainly on 155s and 168gr rounds. Since I did my rebuild she purrs like a kitten, and I have to say for a plate plinker, its a hoot... if only we had bigger mag caps in Canada :(

I have a 308 and a 3006 and like them both. reasonable priced semi-auto's and accessories are also reasonable priced.

Used mine for many years without a problem. I keep worry for all the bad press I hear but I think if you clean the firearm like you should it will never jam.

Hi i have a first year production 55 Rem 740 Carbine in .308 and its never let me down. Keep it clean and well lub you'll never have any problems it has taking a lot of critters large and small and i still would'nt trade it for anything..

I have been using a REM750 Carbine for several years now, 30-06 with a bushnell 3200 3-10 power on it.

Love the rifle. So far three mule, and one moose to its count. Should add a pair of mule and maybe a whitetail to it this fall.

742

i just bought a 742 in 243 cal. it is in really niceshape. i put a cheap bushnell on it with see-through rings. it was very grimy and full of dust and dirt. i took all the wood off, then the trigger and cleaned the receiver and action with brake cleaner. i put it together and sprayed just a bit of G-96 gun treatment in the bolt. it has only jammed twice in 45 rounds. they are well known for being jamma-matics. the 243 is a short action which i think makes a big difference. another thing it is not very accurate. its all over the place. maybe with more time and patience ill get it better. might even sell it as is.

have a 742 in 30-06, the bolt came apart at the range this year. took two different gunsmiths to find one who could repair it with used parts. gonna sell it and recoup some of the $550 I paid for it three years ago.

Remington 750 Carbine 308win with a 2-7x32. Zero problems. Loves 150grain pills, shoots very tight groups. So far 180grain loads are so-so. I stick to 150 and use my bigger guns for the heavy led.

I have a hand me down 742 in .308. I love the gun, and it was my dad's. He used it to take many whitetail and I have continued the tradition. I have taken deer with it at 10, to just over 300 yrds. All have dropped like rocks. Too bad I was skunked this year.

I am sad to say that lack of maintenance has taken its toll on mine. Although it still looks like it came out of the box, the inside of the receiver has taken some punishment. This was the reason I purchased my Thompson this year and now the Woodsmaster will be my "just in case gun."

Or in the event I ever go for something larger than whitetail, this will be my gun of choice.

Does this make me an official member of the club?
