What's the correct way to disassemble these 740 series magazines? It looks like I need to bend the tabs on the housing at the front to get the follower out? I have an original and a new one with the plastic bottom, which seems like it's internally locked in place and requires the same disassembly as the original. Any knowledge appreciated as I don't like having to hammer stuff apart if I don't have to.

I know its very straightforward and simple, but I can't recall the steps. An old guy at deer camp some years ago put a loaded mag in his pocket for the walk in to his blind. Ended up with some dimes and pennies trapped under the bottom plate. I took it apart and reassembled on the tailgate of my truck with a multitool.

This sounds like you bent the tabs. I was kind of hoping for a non bending metal way to do it as you can only do it so many times before metal fatigue takes over. I would speculate about 5-10 times before metal failure from experience with other things.

Should be able to pop follower out by spreading the sides a bit with your fingers.

If you just want to clean them, I have cleaned them by rinsing with boiled water. Does not cause rusting.

Tooth brush, simple green and a kettle of boiling water.
splash some warm water from tap and add simple green and scrub with tooth brush.
Use a chinouix i the sink and place said magazine into chinouix and pour water to rinse out dirt and simple green.
Shake out and place to air dry.
The heat from the boiling water will heat the metal up and assist in drying.
Lube with G-96....
But, if you have a magazine full of dimes, dont bother with the method I described.

Thanks for this. Not very easy by hand, but a screwdriver works well to pry the follower to one side enough to get one retention tab out. Easy enough after that. interesting note, the new plastic bottom mags bottoms are rivited in place internally instead of sliding off like they look like they should.

Now the disappointing news, followers are stamped on both. I was hoping to 45 them to delete that absolutely stupid bolt hold open 'feature'. Might still do it though. Just tack weld filler in and grid.
