742 needs fixing

Hello! Since my dads birth day is coming up soon I would like to fix his old 30-06.It has a pitted chamber but the rifling is fine is there a solution to this problem that does not involve buying a new rifle?
 
You can have the barrel switched out, the barrel assemblies are "modular". Headspace will have to be checked and okayed by someone competent to do so.
I may have a 30-06 barrel kicking around.
