My friend has this 308 everytime you fire it the bolt gets jammed out of the track
In the Open position is it worth fixing .or can it be fixed
Thanks Dennis

Look at the inside of the receiver where the bolthead would be when open all the way. The interrupted threads of the bolthead can put chatter marks into the receiver wall. If this has happened, the edges can be smoothed over, and the rifle might work for a while. But the problem is essentially terminal.

Yes they can be fixed, a gunsmith isnt going to be cheap, and if you arent interested in doing it yourself that pretty much ends the discusssion. It could be bolthead over rotation, I have fixed it on a number of 742s, cuz people give up pretty easy. Its on the above link how to fix that. Chatter marks on rails can be smoothed a bit, and once the over rotation issue is solved they run fine.
Generally getting the barrel off the first time can be a pain, but a good cleaning, and updating off the bolt head lock, etc and they run fine.
