748 in 308

Ball powder, like 748, is harder to ignite. A light bullet can be real tricky.

168 gr is not light.

If ammo is important to you, I suggest a Stnd Winchester primer or a magnum CCI or Federal.

Nothing "wrong" with it, but it is very hot. I would use it for a big magnum round with a full case of vey slow ball powder.

The standard Winchester is about perfect for a 308 case of ball powder.

I've been using 43.5 gr W-748, WLR, Horn 165gr SPBT for years. I put 8 rds @ 100yds inside a Loonie. Best big game load I've had.

I am still learning about these. I do not think your Fed 210M primers are "standard" Large Rifle primers - I think they are "Match" Large Rifle primers, which an acquaintance tells me are "always" hotter than the same company's standard primers. I used Fed 210 for years and years with RL15 in 308 Win, 165 grain Speer HotCor. Finally ran out of both that powder and those primers - replacement primers that showed up are Fed 210M, so apparently not the exact same thing, and nothing in sight for the RL-15 powder, except some Varget. So, will be starting all over again.

A FED 210, a FED 210M and a FED GM210M are all the same primer - exact same mixture, same components, same raw material. The difference is the 210M (old designation) & GM210M (current designation) are made by the most experienced operators that Federal has on their staff. The match primers are supposed to be more consistant.

Yup, I agree completely but they aren't nearly as consistent as CCI 250 in burn rate. Neither is the Federal 215, or Remington.

I very seldom get unexplained flyers from CCI 250 primers but I get to many for comfort from the others.
