75 grn Amax in a 1-9 .223?

Sounds like I should swerve them. Ill give the 70 grn Bergers a try instead.

Try some 77 gr Sierra Match Kings. Based on "the rules", they should not shoot well in that twist, but they shot great in mine and others that I know of. Savage Mod 10 FP .223 24" barrel.

They even shot better than the 69 gr SMK which savage recommends.

The 75 A-MAX was okay, but nothing like the 77. I used 24.2 gr of Varget, prepped .223 brass (range brass if you can believe), Federal small rifle primers, .25 MOA every day.

I will give the SMK a go, but I have been less than impressed with their performance on gophers, with lots of ricochets, minimal expansion, etc. Was hoping the Amax might be a bit more explosive(safe).

If you want excitement for gophers use a 50-55gr vmax. I have had some fly up 10-15 feet and 10-20 feet form where they were standing. If you can find both halves of the gopher it is interesting.
