.750" vs .920" 10/22 barrel profile

Hey guys, adding another 10/22 in the stable.
SR22 variant

Going eotech holo with a 12" barrel.
I have owned and modded a few SR22 back then, but always with 12" bull barrel, not with the 12" .750" profile

I am on the fence, going .750" will have a negative effect on accuracy, but the gun will drive better from target to target

Would you go 750 or 920 and why?
My mind is pretty set, but having opinions never hurts

I'd go lighter/smaller. It's a .22. Hard to get it hot like a centerfire, so it won't flex nearly as much.

I went .920 so I could use Nodak Spud sights.

If I wasn't using irons i would go with a thinner profile.

apparently you've never mag dumped your 10/22 and got the barrel glowing red before?
i guess that isnt too much of a risk anymore with the hi cap mags gone......

Yep, true that a .22 wont heat up much
If i set my objective at 1''@50yds (this would be a fun action gun afterall not a benchrest one), 11'' x.750'' barrel capable of this?

Because regular profile sure has a stinking hard time as i have tried this a few times. While my 12.5''x.920'' Mcgowen barrel would group 3/4''@50M without actually trying that hard

Thickness of your barrel has zero effect on accuracy.

Go with the .750".

At some point i would guess so.

Between .750 and .920 it might be very minimal.
But between the standard and 920 its big.
Maybe because i was trying groups after a bit of plinking, and the standard heats up too fast too. And once heated group opens

Kidd ultralight. Outshoots the McGowen and weighs half as much. Best if both worlds

I've never even come close to warming a 1022 barrel. South of the border I had the pleasure of extensively shooting a full auto 1022, even when the 25 rd mags feed flawlessly , the barrel only slightly warmed up.


30 rounds of 223 thru a semi auto Mini 14 on a warm summer day will cause the wooden handguard to start smoke.

For an M4'ish type build, get the 750". I did just that years back and created a "tactical" contour with McGowen. I see others are now offering similar contours... and that is a good thing.

It's about balance and handling. For CQB type blasting, the lighter barrel was fast to transistion and point.
