What do you guys think of Remington Model 750 Woodsmaster Semi Auto Rifle: .308 Win. for deer?

How is the accuracy compared to bolt guns?

Thanks

I've been told by 3 independant dealers that they have had more warranty work on the 750 than any other gun, even the 7400. In their words " junk"

Remington 750

I worked at Lebarons for a bit, and was there when a whole bunch of them came back for a full refund. Apparently the gun had some feeding problems that were attributed to the magazine. A gunsmith told me one of the biggest problem with Remington semi autos is people don't clean the breech and a build up of carbon and lead causes loading and ejection problems. The build up of lead comes from shooters who use those soft lead tipped bullets, and that when the cartridge is fed into the chamber bits of lead are shaved by the magazine and deposited in the breech. The springs over a period of time gets compressed as well. Other than that I have had the opportuinity to shoot one, and the best I ever got was an inch and a half group at 100yds and that was with my M14 hand loads. You'll have to sort through a bunch of different factory ammo before you find one that really works for the gun.
Good Luck!

I own a 750 carbine in .35 Whelen. My nephew has one also. They have NEVER jammed. We do keep them clean like all of our rifles. The internet /forum slamming of these rfles has been very over exaggerated. Both of our carbines shoot a way better than we can on most days. My nephews' rifle on the bench does 1" groups with 200 grain factory loads. I have never shot mine off of a bench. Yes some dealers have had returns but my dealer in Thunder Bay hasn't had one back yet. Our carbines were purchased about 18 months after the 750 was introduced. Perhaps the issues have been addressed. I would not hesitate to try one it is far better designed than the old 742 with the same great handling and pointing fetaures.

Just my two cents, Darryl

I'm not sure about the 750 but 2 yrs ago a buddy from work brought his brand new 7400 .30-06 carbine out to the range for some target practice. He was so excited about how fast he could flail that when it jammed he was overwhelmed with confusion. All he could say is, "thats the first time thats ever happened?" This is the only experience I have with these semis but I would bet it will happen again to him. Also, one of the big dealers around here expressed extreme frustration with Remingtons. He told me that he has to personally fire every semi-auto or pump, (rifle or shotgun) or chances are they most always come back from customer complaints. I was glad he was up front with me cause it helped me with my rifle purchase.

The Remington pump rifles and shotguns have never had the same reliability problems that the semi-auto rifles suffer from.

Yes, Remington did fix the problem with the magazines. The redesign of the gun itself is actually quite simple. They moved the gas port back (I think) .5" back for a shorter and quicker cylce rate, so if you're using short cartridges like the .308 it will seem quicker than its predecessor. That being said, you do have to keep it clean and watch for spring wear. It's a good rifle now. As with everything new being rushed into the market place, manufacturers never work out the bugs until the second year. i.e. xbox .360s would catch on fire in certain circumstances.

on the original post...the question asked was about accuracy between the semi-auto and a bolt....well in answer to that ...accuracy is in the hands of the shooter , not the gun. It only shoots where the operator points it...knowledge and practice, along with the right ammo, improves accuracy. Try different brands and see which shells your gun likes.

No problems with that rifle, but it's more than double the price, but well worth it. I had no issues selling those things. And they were accurate. You won't go wrong with a short trac. My only beef with it (Browning rifles) is that swing out magazine floor plate. It is very convenient though, I just don't like em.

SIR - Browning BAR Longtrac Stalker: .30-06 Sprg. Price: $ 984.99

- Remington Model 750 Woodsmaster Synthetic Semi Auto Rifle: .30-06 Sprg. $ 689.99

Hardly double the price.;)

The BAR doesn't have the floorplate like the A-bolt.

Of the two, go with the Browning.
