Hey guys,

I am hoping for a quick answer here.

Do the Amax bullets like to be jumped, jammed or kissing the lands?

I haven't had much experience with them so I was hoping someone who shoots them will know.

Loading for a Pacnor 3 groove barrel that may or may not have the twist to stabilize these bullets. I guess I will find out tomorrow.

I was going to load them up kissing the lands using OBT formula.

In the last 10 years I've worked with 8 different 8" twist .223 barrels. They all shot best at long range .015" off.

I decided to go with the Sierra's after all. LOL

I was going to use CCI 450 and Varget with them, but the 1:10 wasn't going to to cut it and I didn't feel like changing scopes to shoot my 1:9.

Thanks for the info though, I may load some up next week and try them out.

You guys are having way too much fun...Nice shooting by the way.

If you are loading 75gr Amax for a savage 223, lean on the throttle. They like to fly in the 2900+fps range and the throat tends to be on the long side of SAAMI.

Reviving this thread to check my perceptions: in my .308 1:13 barrel, I'm switching from SMK 155's to Amax 155's, and I needed to change the seating depth.

So here's my approach: using my plain-jane RCBS seating die (it'll have to do until until the bills slow down some), I kept adjusting the seater plug in until the bullets weren't engraving anymore, then gave a further 3/4 of a full turn of the seater plug adjust screw. I tested this a couple of times, and there's no engraving, it's not difficult to close the bolt, and by my eyeball, the bullet should still be well within the case neck as it starts to hit the lands.

Comments? Apart from "Go buy an expensive competition seating die"? :D I will be doing that, but for now, I still want to work up a load and I need to start somewhere. I can play with seating depth later, after I've fine tuned a load.

X2 on what mystic said... in savage 223 the throat is on the long side of SAMMI spec. I load my 75 AMAX .010 to the lands and they don't come close to fitting in the magazine.
