i have a remington 760 in 300 savage and the wood on it is a bit cracked in places, what are my options in replacing the stock. Boyds doesn't have a butt stock. Will a wood stock from 7600 fit? I have been told that a stock off 870 20ga would fit

Yes, Remington 870 20ga stocks will fit, as will a 7600 stock. As will a 740/742 stock. Or you can get a Mesa Tactical Lucy Stock Adapter which will allow you to use any 12ga stock, including Magpul SGA's, on it.

You need to be careful with those older 760s as there were two different styles of forends. The later 2nd gen 760 forend is the same as the 7600 whereas the earlier ones were different.

A tactical stock would look goofy on that old classic.

Definitely, but he didn’t mention forends. Figured he’s just talking stock. As for tactical looking goofy - you might be surprised. Add an adapter and you can put a Magpul 870 forend on along with the Magpul SGA. It’s actually a pretty good update to a classic.

The new style forends will fit on the older models but it is not a simple swap. You have to remove the plastic end and clean up the leading edge. Obviously some finishing work is required.

Kinda like putting a spoiler on a K Car. :) :)

Not sure why you’d say that. A K car isn’t a classic. But I’ve seen spoilers on Cuda’s. Like I say - update. But, maybe you’d be against a synthetic stock on a Remington 700, or dare I say….an MDT chassis?

Actually the Magpuls look pretty good - they flow pretty nice with the rifle. Doesn’t necessarily make it look “tacti-cool” just makes it look like it has an aftermarket stock. 760’s are notoriously low in the comb, so this gives a much better cheek weld, and you can adjust LOP. My old 760 in 308 will hold MOA with my handloads, why not make it a more comfortable shooter?
