7615P Trunk gun project

I have a bad habit of buying things after visiting Gallen270, I ended up with two 7615P's after taking a liking to his. A while back, he mentioned having short barrels made, my wheels got turning. Space is at a premium in both my vehicles, and our glorious laws keep my best options in the safe most of the time, so I like the NR 7615P for my purposes. I hope to get out and shoot it in the next few days.

The 12" barrel was done by Josef Dlask, he is a wizard. I might ditch the flash hider, that would take my overall collapsed lenght down to a hair over 28".

A friend of mine had a falling out with Mesa's customer service a while back, ground their name off anything he owned and gave it all away. I ended up with a low tube adapter. With a little fitting, it fits solid as rock. I slightly modded a Magpul MOE grip and stuck in on there.

Yes, the stock is "bubba'd", I wanted short and functional, not pretty. I cut a couple of inches out of it. This gets things almost as short as practically possible, while keeping four locked positions. Fully collapsed, there's a bout 3/4" of play, so it can be gripped with the stock collapsed. I don't care if it's ugly, 29" overall lenght is fine by me.

I screwed a magpul MOE rail section to the forend, with a little trial and error, and put a TLR-1 on there. It's solid, though I know some of you will get a migraine from it. Somehow I doubt I'll be HALO jumping into Pyongyang with this rifle, so it's probably good enough.;)

EOtech 512 on an EGW picatinny mount.

SOE single point bungee sling, with HK hook.

Non restricted, takes AR mags, short, guaranteed to offend hippies, I'm a happy.:D

Definitely an excellent project. I usually snub the 7615, but this one I'd proudly run through the bush with.

Although you know a Tavor is only . . . 30" (I think?) and semi-auto to boot!

Joe's got various prices on the barrels, depending on finish and options. Figure around $400 plus taxes/shipping(migt be less now that two guineapigs have volunteered;) ). Mine ended up a little more because I wanted my XS front sight mounted, and wanted to try the flash hider.

It's not cheap, works out to over $100 an inch, but Joe does quality work. I can't complain. If our laws weren't written on the short bus, I'm sure getting a barrel cut down would be a lot cheaper.

I do this with all my M4 type stocks on anything non-AR15. I cut material off the threaded end so that there is only room for the castle nut and no more than 1/8" play between the nut and the stock.

On my AR180B stock adapter I actually measured it so that when the stock is aligned properly it actually tightens up and bottoms out on the adapter. This makes it rock solid once the the lock nut is in place.

ugh, frigging canada post...mine should be here this week. cant wait.

if anyone knows where i can pick up a solid ghost ring rear sight for a 7615/7600/20 ga 870, in canada, id appreciate the info. i had the factory open sights on the barrel, but im going to add the receiver sight once i track one down.

where did he get the barrel extension? when i got mined done, the original barrel had to get chopped up for the barrel extension.

you mind posting some up close pics of the barrel/barrel extension/ and where it all meets up to the receiver. i think im picking up what your putting down, but pics will help.

Powerwagon, I have no clue. The takeoff barrel looks like it was just unscrewed, I affmed he machined the new one the go back in the same way.

SimilkameenSlayer, the grip on the forestock isn't as bad as it looks. It does take a little getting used to, I won't rule-out future changes, it's a work in progress.

Gallen, pics of mine or Powerwagon's you're looking for? The woman screwed around with my camera and I can't get the flash to work, too dark in here for pics.

the barrel extension is deep in the receiver. can't get a picture without stripping the gun. it is unique to the 7615, and remington only sells them as complete barrels for almost the cost of a rifle.

ok so you can use 30 round magazines with this right? im sure it's been discussed but here is the law on it.

Q7. What is the maximum number of cartridges that a firearm magazine can legally hold?

A7. As set out in Criminal Code Regulations, some large-capacity magazines are prohibited regardless of the class of firearm to which the magazines are attached. As a general rule, the maximum magazine capacity is:

5 cartridges for most magazines designed for a semi-automatic centre-fire long gun; or
10 cartridges for most handgun magazines
A large-capacity magazine is not prohibited if it has been permanently altered so that it cannot hold more than the number of cartridges allowed by law. Acceptable ways to alter a magazine are set out in the regulations.

There is no limit to the magazine capacity for semi-automatic rim-fire long guns, or for other long guns that are not semi-automatics.

so i guess my answer is no you cant because of the regardless of type of rifle it is attached to.....

could you then have a 30 round mag that says in writing designed for use with pump action rifles only and then we can use them in our ar15s?

The 7615 was specifically designed to use AR-15 mags. Anybody can stamp "7615 PUMP ACTION" on the side of a mag supposedly desgned for the 7615, it's still an AR mag. This has been discussed to no end on this board, somebody always thinks they know better, bottom line is 10rds is as good as it gets under current legislation.

Now, I haven't fooled around with 10rd XCR mags in 6.8 and 7.62x39, if they happened to load and feed an extra round or two of .223/5.56, that would be kosher. If anybody has those mags laying around, they might chime in on that. That's as close to a loophole as you're going to get.

Short answer.. no

Long answer.. due to Remington's marketing strategy (AR15 mag compatibility), any 7615 mag was deemed to be an AR mag thus 5 rounds, Pistol mags being 10 rounds.

I believe under the ruling, even if someone was to make a 30 round mag specifically labelled for 7615 it would still be deemed an AR mag.
