762x39 loads

for my cz858. Does anyone have a good load, ive got some 123 gr v max bullets, lapua cases. Anyone have any reccomendations for powders. Ive got varget, 4895, 4064.

Them's is all very slow powders for that case. You can stuff as much of any of those powders as you can get to fit in the case into a 7.62x39, and probably be marginal as to whether or not you get enough pressure to cycle the action reliably.

You really want something faster burning -- more in the neighbourhood of 4198, Reloader 7, WC735, or that sort of thing (or even H322/H335 would be OK). I use 30 grains of WC735 under 123 or 125 grain bullets in my mini-30, and that works great for me.

If you're reloading; it's also sometimes fun to do 150 grain Hornady bullets designed for the 303 Brit as well. Should be able to make 2200FPS; great little 30-30esque hunting load.

Get some IMR4227. Its good for both cast and jacketed bullets.

For a 125gr jacketed, start with 16.7 grains and work up to a max of 18.5.

mp5k, your powders are definitely on the slow side. RL-7 is a good overall powder for the x39. I have used IMR 3031, as I hade some handy, with decent results, but even with that, you run out of case capacity before getting serious velocity.

Try Rel 7. It has given the best results to date accuracy wise for me. Using the Hornady VMax bullets, Federal LR Match primers and 23.6 grs. of Rel 7 in Winchester brass, I have managed a 5 shot group at 100 meters of .90 inches out of my AR 15 in 7.62 x 39.
BTW, where did you get the VMax bullets? Those ones are hard to come by right now.

Well I see MysticPlayer is selling the Vmax in 123 gr. for the 7.62 x 39 reloaders. Those are great bullets.

Ya, Mystic has them. i thought id give reloading a try for my cz 858. Ill be picking up some powder & ill see what groups i can pull out of it. I had a hard time justifying loading due to the price of surplus, But i like Vmax bullets & thought id give it a try! Anyone got any group sizes from a cz with vmaxs?
