I posted ia question n the gunsmithing section RE; fitting a "re-worked" 10/22 barrel to a 77/22 & rechambering to improve accuracy.

Is this a practical and worthwhile way to tune-up my 77/22? Anyone here tried this idea?

Thanks for your interest

Green Mountain and a couple of others make 77/22 barrels. I had one and it needed a special adaptor collar to fit my 10/22 so you would have to turn the shoulder back on the 10/22 barrel to fit a 77/22 I would guess. Why not just rechamber the stock 77/22barrel?

rework

Yes, I have done it, it is a lot of machining and a complete rechamber. For the cost, just get the factory 77 barrel rechambered and recrowned, put a VQ sear in it, do some bedding work, and you'll have a great shooter. I redid mine with a much tighter chamber, and with that barrel it has shot 1/2" at 50 yards with Fed Eagles. Way more accurate and still looks factory. Later.

My rifle is a 77/22 all-weather. It is my "go anywhere .22". I really like the rifle and it is 100% reliable. It has never failed to function, but it is only a 2.0 MOA shooter at best. I'd like it alot more if I could get it to become nearer to a 1.0 MOA shooter at 50 yds. I have the 2x7 leupold rimfire scope on it.

So far I've put in a target sear & the trigger pull is now at 2.25 pounds. I've also bedded and floated (most of) the barrel and filled in the forearm voids. It was alot of work to get it just right with the panels & swivel etc. and no real improvement. Seems like a re-worked barrel is an option... I hope.

Pls send me a PM with your phone # and when is a convenient time I can reach you. Thanks
