My dad is 77 years old he when I was a kid he took me to the gun club taught me how to shoot and hunt well last year he had a serious skiing accident that left him with a 3rd degree shoulder seperation in his right shoulder and he is right handed which effected everything he does now.

I had him up in the mtns yesterday main purpose of the trip was to collect serpentine (indian jade) rocks for a retaining wall in his back yard but I had alterior motives when I agreed to go with him.

He had given me the excuse that he can't hunt anymore because any level of recoil was more than he could handle well I fixed that... :D

I pulled out my Robinson Arms XCR-L in 6.8SPC loaded it with my 110gr Sierra Prohunter's @ 2650fps loads to do some plinking with, I have these zero'ed @ 100 yards my hunting loads are 95gr Barnes TTSX @ 2825fps they make this a 300 yard deer hunting combo.

After a few shots to get used to shooting again he proceeded to pepper the center of a target @ 150 yards.

I now have an excited dad that wants to go hunting again all due to a non-restricted modern low powered semi-auto hunting rifle.

What he really liked are the 10 round pistol mags I handed him...

Thats great to hear. It's nice to see that your father can get out enjoying what he loved to do and that you can spend some time together as well.

Good job Camp Cook!
Do what ever you can to help your dad!

My friend and I guided my father to a moose two years ago. He was 72.
He was very happy that he still "had it"!

That was the last hunt we had together.
He battleled cancer for a year and a half.
And he passed away this may.

Time is the most valuable thing we have! We cant save it, buy it, or earn it.
So enjoy it when its given.

Go get some animals Camp Cook! And enjoy it!

I was at the gun club with the XCR-L last week had both my 223 upper and 6.8SPC uppers with me.

I had a great time shooting small leaves on the berm/hillside behind the 200 meter targets with the 223 and was grouping just over 1 1/2" with the 6.8...

These are fun fast handling rifle I have 10 round 223 pistol mags as well.

I was at my dad's this afternoon unloading the serpentine rocks when I mentioned I did this thread got him talking about the rifle best statement he made was "oh yeah I liked those 10 round mags...

He hunted for years with a beater Lee Enfield 303 with a 10 round mag...

:D

Glad to hear you had a good time with your dad. Shooting and hunting is a lot more fun when done with people you really enjoy being with. I'll bet he's pretty good with that old 'beater Lee Enfield'. That was my first rifle too.
