777 Primers and misfires

Last year my buddy was singing the praises of 777 primers. He says they improved his accuracy and for the amount this guy shoots I do beleive him. So I picked up a pack and figured I'd give them a shot. Sorry for the pun.

Anyway, I went out a few times last year and watched a few deer go by and then finally when I did have my chance at a nice buck I had a misfire. Actually I had 3 misfires all at the same buck before he decided it was best for him to get the hell out of there. It pissed me off, but one of the days I was out it had been drizzling and I figured my powder may have got some moisture and thats why the primers didn't work.

Yesterday was the first day I had to sight in my muzzleloader and I headed out with my 777 primers. Same results as last year. 4 shots - 4 misfires. I popped in a regualr 209 primer and it fired off without issue.

Just to clarify the 777 primers were firing, but they were not igniting the powder. I am using 2 - 50gr Pyrodex pellets and yes, I am putting them in the right way.

Anyone have similar issues?
 
I was having misfire problems also. Got a .25acp conversion which uses small rifle primers and .25acp brass. Also switched to loose powder, no more problems.:) With only one shot, you have to be confident in your rifle.

oh that must have been frustrating! It was just such a day that provided the inspiration for metallic cartridge invention!
 
Good advice all around so far. It's all things I will change for next year as I'm commited to what I have in place for the remainder of ML season here in MB. The conversion kit looks interesting and I just might give that a try.

And yes, that experience last year was frustrating. I will say that I do beleive the only reason I got 3 cracks at him was because I was in my blind. He had no idea where the noise was coming from and actually moved closer to me with every shot. It was probaly more my cursing and temper tantrum that scared him off.
 
I've never used the 777 primers....but I've from guys at the club that they HATE them.....same problem you had!!!!! I just use regular 209 shotshell primers! lol.....I could just picture myself in your situation....I'd be pissed!!
 
Sounds like a plugged breechplug more than anything. Clean thoroughly, then snap a cap (primer) prior to loading. That should clear any obstruction and alleviate those misfires.
