777 With air space?

Hey everyone, I have magtech brass for my 577-450 martini henry. The brass
holds 125 grains of black powder. Which is fine if I want to use black powder. But hodgons 777 is cleaner and less corrosive so I want to use it. Obviously I cant put 125 grains of 777 in there (too much pressure). So my question is, if I just put 65 grains in there with no fillers and empty space, will that be dangerous? I know thats bad practice for black powder, but this stuff is more like smokeless. Otherwise I'm looking at fillers, and from what ive been reading that is sketchy buisness...

Why is using a filler a sketchy buisness?.
I stopped using that feelthy black and there substitutes years ago for Re-7 but would never have left an air gap with black.
There are lots of opinions around on what is best to use for a filler but i wont go there as this thread will end up a mile long and you will end up pulling your hair out.LOL:D

haha thats the thing, i've been reading for 5 hours now on fillers and noone has a strait answer! I really wanna use triple 7, what do you use for fillers? I've got some cream of wheat sitting in my basement but everyone says not to use it to fill below the neck of the case. And im confused as hell! Please shed some wisdom! I'd hate to have to use black powder..

Kapok, cotton wool or dakron.
Cream of wheat, bran, semolina, wheat germ ect. is a no no in bottle necks, Good in streight cases, Snider ect.
Now start loading and make smoke.:D

not that triple 7 is a bad powder but having finally tried Jim Shockey's Gold this year I'd forget about 777. I used triple 7 for 4 years, and bought my first pound of Jim Shockey's this fall....no comparison for fouling, or clean up. Not to mention that it is supposedly less corrosive than trip.7 also. Just a suggestion ;)
 
Well Shockey's powder, and 777 are both black powder replacements, and have basically the same characteristics when fired, but Shockey's Gold has less fouling. They advertise being able to shoot a muzzle loader 100 times with out cleaning and still be able to load with Shockey's powder. You'd never do that with 777. I don't know about 100 times, I guess its possible. I did 15 rnds with it and after the second or third shot the bore never got any tighter to load.

As for over pressure, or the use of fillers I'm not familiar with loading black powder cartridges enough to comment ;)
 
Correction.

I just been talking to a friend and he said Dacron is not good for a filler as it leaves a varnish like residue in the bore when it burns and a pain in the rectum to remove.
I have only ever used pure cotton wool, Sorry bout dat.
