783 Scope mounts - what're the options and who's got em?

I just got a screaming deal on a Remington 783 in 7mm rem mag and I need to find mounts for it. The scope I picked up is a Bushnell elite 3-9x50, so I probably need high rings (bought both Med and high weaver grand slams for it).

I've done a quick search, and I've found ring mounts from remington in a few places (but I already have rings), an EGW rail at Hirsch, and tasco 2pc mounts at Canadian Tire. I'm leaning towards the EGW rail, but $20 shipping makes it nearly $80 which is almost twice what the ring mounts cost...

So, any other options? Anyone know if there is a local GVRD store selling anything so I can save on shipping? Anyone know if a 50mm scope will fit in the medium ring mounts? Or will I need to hunt down the high ones which seem far less common?

If you already have rings, just get 2 Grand Slam S35 bases.

I can't find anything that specifies that base for the 783. Can you help me out with that?

I did find some bases for cheap from Epps but they're $10+$20 shipping (and they're aluminum not steel)...

Takes 2 Rem 700 front bases, you can look it up here http://www.weaveroptics.com/mountcharts/
I would want steel bases for the 7mm Mag. Try Cabella's when they have free shipping on.
I use the Rem branded Talley type on mine, but I got them back when they were $30 a pair.

Really? Damn I wish I knew that when I bought the gun, they had a variety of 700 bases, all 40-50% off... Might have to go back later in the week... Thanks though!

For reference, the medium Rem rings with a 40mm Nikon

I think you will be happy with the 783 in 7 RM...I picked up the same two seasons ago...no load developement, went straight to a max load of RL 22 and TTSX 140,s @ .050 off the lands, .75 inch groups and 100 meters.cou:

1 moose, 2 deer, and 1 Black bear that season with 4 shots.

Superstition ...some guns are lucky, others not so much so! :)

Have any feeding issues? I've only screwed around with a pair of snap caps, but the top round (left side of mag) sometimes gets stuck on the feed ramp. The last round in the magazine feeds flawlessly but the other one above that is hit and miss... I was going to start a thread on this later after I grab a box of ammo (I've had issues with snap caps before that didn't happen with real ammo) but if you've got any insight... I bought some 139gr GMX so hopefully I'll get similar results.

No feeding issues with mine, its been 100% reliable to date but it really doesn't have many rounds through it.

I don't bother with snap caps either...many, many, many dry fires with my centerfire bolt guns, never been a problem!

I bought them cause they were half price and I wanted to play with the rifle, my plan was to go straight into reloading for this rifle but now I want a box of ammo to test the feeding issues... Im pretty sure it's magazine related, the spring is very stiff which I think is causing too much binding between the rounds and causing funny things to happen as the round starts sliding forward from the mag while running the action...

Here's something I seen on a different forum >>>>>

My 783 was doing the same thing, where it would push down on the back of the rounds as the bolt was slid back on the full magazine (4 rounds) and the back of the round would stay pushed down, preventing the bolt from catching the rim when coming forward. The fix is relatively easy. Take the plastic floor of the magazine apart from the metal box. There's two small plastic tabs, one on each side, which need to be carefully pried/released from the metal box. Inside is the follower with accordion spring attached. Lift the back of the spring, the end which lays against the back of the plastic follower, below where the back end of the rounds rest. Insert a clean penny squarely betwixt the spring and the plastic follower. Use a suitable adhesive, which is both strong and a little flexible, to hold the penny in place. Don't use enough glue that it gets beyond the outside perimeter of the follower. Just need to hold the penny in place. When the glue cures, reassemble. Done.
Before this I tried tweaking the feed lips and had only the slightest bit of success with that. It took it from missing and sliding over the top round maybe 70% of the time to around 50% of the time. The penny fix has been 100%, always catches all rounds.

Interesting. My bolt always catches the round, but the tip gets jammed up on the feed ramp. I'll have to do some more investigating later. Thanks though. I might buy a second magazine and see if that makes any difference.
