788 detachible mag. size?

Hi i was wondering if the 22-250 det mag for the Remington 788 will work in a 308. I realize the 243,7-08,260,308 are the same case and the 22-250 is close with a slight more body tapper. I was just wondering if they use the same mag or not?

No. Different length magazines and receivers.

Mag Length.

The 22-250 mag should be 2.410" long while the 308 is around 2.875" according to book Bolt Action Rifles by Frank de Haas.

788's came with 3 different magazine sizes. 223, 22-250, 308, and their various offspring and relatives. - dan

there is a small gun shop in saskatoon that stocks them for the 788 i cant remember the name of the shop though ,,,,,just off of circle dr

Ah yes, I forgot the 6. Which is odd, because I have one. But you are correct, they had their own mag size. I also have one in 6mm-284 that uses modified 6mm rem mags. - dan

You can make a .243 mag work but it is some major surgery and monkeying around to get it to feed right, that what i`m using in my 6mm 788 since 6mm mags are the rarest bird.

They are that. I have two for mine, and the last one I saw for sale (stateside), they wanted $80 for. Ouch. - dan
