I only had one day guaranteed to me this deer season, so I took the first spike that came along on monday. A 200 yrd. shot dropped the yearling so fast that I thought I'd missed until I saw one leg give a couple of kicks up above the grass. The shot was a bit high- took out the very top forward bit of both lungs and burried itself in the hillside behind him. I switched from hornady 139 btsp after a similar shot last year failed to exit and left absolutely no blood trail. I like that I can push the 120 really hard, without worrying about whether or not it will hold together, or penetrate. Working up the load was like falling off a log. R-P brass, Fed. 210's, and .5gr. increments of R15. All charges worked, so I went with 44.0- the Barne's listed max- and went hunting. I didn't chrono it, but the deer seems pretty impressed... Sorry no pics, but the rifle is a Win 70 classic featherwieght w/ a Vari-X-II 2x-7x.

congrats on a practical hunt.

I have seen atleast a dozen forks this year. Lots of little ones because many hunters are looking for the booner.

Should be great steaks and even better tenderloin

I skinned the deer out last night. Only about a 3" circle of bloodshot meat on entrance and exit.

I've even thought about trying to work something up for my 7mm RM- I've got 120's and 140's, I'm thinking either one should be a laser, w/ less recoil than the 612's I'm currently running, w/ zero worries of nuking...

Bacon wrapped tenderloin on Sunday night- real charcoal- medium rare, w/ garlic mashed and a bottle of Penfold's. The thought of that is going to get me through the rainy scout camp this weekend!
