7mm-08 and monometals - GMX, TSX, etc

Just picked up a box of Superformance with the 139 gr GMX bullet (hard to find!). It's moving at 2900 fps. That sucker is gonna tear through anything and it's harder than the TTSX. Can't wait to do some damage with it this year!

have your chronied this load, or reading the info on the box...?

How about you leave the mono metals for the whizz bangers and stick with projectiles that are more suited for 7/08 velocities. ;)

A decent 140 or 150 projectile for the 7/08 is where the chambering shines, and closer to the 140's exclusively.

Lighter than that , after a bit of distance the bullets will not hold velocity, higher than that , they don't get propelled fast enough to be practical.Target bullets is another discussion.

140gr Nosler partition is soft enough it will expand at quite the range of velocities and still hold together , is a very good all round choice. There is also the LRAB if you want a bit higher BC and have a wider range of velocities for tip expansion, but it is a 150gr.I do have a hunting load with 150gr Swift Sciroccos, quite similar to Accubond mechanics, it's loaded to 2750 ft/sec and works wonders.

I'd err on the side of being too fragile than too stout of a projectile and IMO the mono metals leave the least room for error.

You will almost always see the 7/08 perform best with 140's in the 2800-2860ish, ft/sec range in factory twists.

That'll be my second choice. But I have the 139gmx on the shelf, didn't move them with the 7RM when I sold that cause it was right handed so I'm going to start there.

KT is right, but your GMX choice isn't wrong either.

The GMX will do its job at the velocities you can safely achieve right out to 350+ yds

Oh for sure. If the GMX don't shoot good enough I'll be picking up a box of something else, another premium 140gr bullet but one with lead in it - Accubond, Partition, Interbond (although probably not because thats what I'm using in my 270 and I'd rather try something new)... Actually, Woodleighs are pretty high on my list to try, Tradex is out of the 7mm 140gr ones currently though.

We'll see, I still don't have the rifle because Canada Post is taking their sweet ass time with it (plus my dies are still in the mail too) so its a waiting game at this point...

I load 139gr LRX in a friend's Sako 7mm-08 (20" barrel). With RL17 it is 2825 fps

That is excellent velocity from such a short barrel. How much RL17 are you using? Just curious as I also shoot a shorter barrel 7-08 (finnlight) and have not gotten over 2800 fps from 120 gn TTSX yet. I am thinking of using 150 gn partitions for an upcoming elk hunt but if I could push a LRX at that speed I would go that route for sure.

My Fav 7-08 LOAD in several of my M7's and M700's Has Being 49.5 grs H414 CCIBR2 with the 120 TTSX bullet at 3035 fps (20" M7 ) - Shot 3 deer (DRT) with it and NEVER recovered a bullet ! ALSO using the 160 TTSX in my 338 Fed (2950 fps ) and had the same results with Several deer ! The TTSX has worked WELL for me ! RJ
