Hi guys
Once again I am turning to you guys for help.
I wanna load for the 7mm-08 with 100gr sierra hp.
with Varget propelant.
Hodgdon's website does not have any data for 100gr bullets, but have for 12gr. useing 45grains of Varget.
Now If anyone hava any idea where I could get the data I need or is there a formula to work this out?
Useing a known charge and bullet weight?

Barnes shows 47 grs. Max in their #2 manual with Varget & 100 gr. X's

Speer #13 shows 47 grs. Max with Varget and 110 gr. TnT's

my Hornady book shows 47.4 grs. Max with Varget and 100 gr. Hollowpoints

hope this helps

This info is from Sierra’s Edition V reloading data.
0.284” 100 gr. HP C.O.A.L 2.685”
Varget -- 41.2=2900 fps, 42.5=3000 fps. , 43.8=3100 fps. 45.1=3200 fps (max)
my Hornady book shows 47.4 grs. Max with Varget and 100 gr. Hollowpoints
This may seem like a dumb question but why is there such a big difference in the max loads with, both being 100gr and useing the same propelant?
Can bullet design make such a big difference?
Thank you all so much.
I was up to my balls trying to find a load cause none of my manuals listed a 100gr bullet.

I don't know about an 7mm.08,but in a 30.06 and 180s.I asked Stan Watson about bullets and pressures. His comment Swifts caused higher pressures, but the rest, even Partions, were about the same.Swifts are pure copper clad.

For load developement, you can always use the data for heavier bullets as max, safely.

So say a I have data for 110gr bullet but none for 100gr I can use the data for the 110 instead of 100?

Yes,because the heavier bullet will give higher pressures.I used 185gr bullet loads of N-560 with the 180 bullets in my 30.06. But solid copper bullets like Barnes or GS and copper clad like Swifts or Hawk either increase engraving pressures or barrel friction or both,so use seperate data for them.

It goes with out saying, work up your loads, checking pressure signs and over a Chrony. Those rebuilt ones are cheap enough.Remember the loads in the manual are only suggestions, they don't have your rifle.

keep in mind a Max powder charge with a 140 gr. Hornady lead core bullet jacketed bullet might be quite hot when teamed with a 130 gr. all copper Barnes X

best to start low and work up slowly

Here's the add.,work your way through products,and find the rebuilt F-1,item #105 $74.93

When I bought mine,it was a little cheaper, but tri-pods were more;) Almost as much as the Chrony. They are just as accurate as the expensive ones, they are just more sensitive to lighting, like evening shadows don't work.

Every group I shot with my 338-06 was over the Chrony, there wasn't any data for some of the powders, but from pressure tested loads,I knew 2650f/s was about all I should expect with a 225
