7mm-08 loads

When I had my 7-08 I fed it 140 grain Accubonds over a charge is IMR4350. Best group was 12 rounds well under an inch edge to edge at 100 yards. Rifle was a Remington CDL with Leupold fixed 8 power scope.

My fave load is 140gr sierra prohunters with 42grains varget, gets 1/2 MOA groups in my XS7. My bigger critter load is 140gr TSX with 41.5 varget, only groups about 1.5MOA, but thats good enough for game!

My Winchester 70 like 48.7gr IMR-4350, with any 139-140 gr ( Nosler Bal-tip / Sierra 1910/Hornady interlock. 2800fps exactly with this 22 inch barrel.

I have try also with the same bullets some left over powder
H-4350 : 49.3gr = 2815 fps, very accurate also
RL-17 : 47.2gr = 2800 fps , accurate.
IMR-4320 : 43.4gr = 2845 fps, accurate.

My favourite receipe is with the IMR-4350, 48.7gr.

Can someone please descibe this process. Is it as simple as buying .308 brass and putting them through a die? I currently have an fl die and a type S bushing die for it.

Yes. Most of my 7mm-08 brass is resized 308. Never had a problem.

Just set your FL sizing die so the bolt will just barely close on the reformed case, and you will have perfect headspace. Chamfer the case mouth, load and go to the range! :)

Subsequent loads can be sized with the Type S bushing die.

Indeed, forget to mention i'm using 308 Lapua brass :)
dont forget to lube just a little bit the neck/shoulder and inside de neck too.
If you put too much lube youre going to build an accumulation in the die and after few brass you are going to break the brass: A (inverted balloon )in the shoulder area.

Here is my load for a T3 stainless, nice 5 shot group! And it does this all day long. Forgot to add winchester 7-08 brass.

No, tried 5 different powders with partitions and couldn't get anything to shoot at all! Switched to the SST's, walla! I did not try IMR4350 with the partitions as I did not have any at the time. And I'm not going back now!

Gringo
with 45.5gr of IMR-4350 + F210M.+ 139gr
What's youre speed ???
I'll guess around 2440 fps ..
Why are you aiming such a slow speed ? Managed recoil rounds ?

My little Winchester Featherweight is not too bad neither.
I made five round, the first one to sighted my scope and the next four within 0.250 inch, the sqare are 1x1 inch
the receipe is there too.

That's where it was most accurate, and it's not a redueced recoil load. There is only about 150fps difference between the Hodgdon min and max loads so I think the speed is okay. I haven't chronied it but would expect around 2500ish, yes. And at 46.5grs I was 1/4 way up the neck with powder, extrewely compressed. Also I don't think the moose and deer that were shot with this gun this year would notice the 150fps difference. That's a nice looking group with your gun.

Hi Gringo,
I don’t want to bug you too much with this, because i respect you’re own personal experience, and i do agree about the 150fps. But for most people it’s the difference between the 308/30-06 and they bash the 308 for the lack of (power) Witch I don’t really understand myself??

Make a long story short: Look the manual SPEER reloading manual #13 , page 227.
7mm-08 with a 145 gr, IMR-4350, 48.0gr = 2841 fps
That’s why i figured with my 139 i would be able to go at 48.6 48.7gr.
Some of my Lapua ( 308 ) FL case are at 8-9 reload and there still fine.
What i did, i bought a box of good factory 140gr, and i chronied them. With a speed of exactly 2800 fps in my featherweight.
I didn’t want to go faster than factory ammunition, but at least reproduce the same (Level) of ammunition.
My 0.02 $

I agree, I like to go as fast as I can as accurate as I can. I havn't cronied it but I guess I should. I didn't go any higher because loading to mag length for the Tikka was starting to crush powder very hard. Whats your length and what brand of brass are you using?

I'm curious, The shooting club is at less than 5 minutes ,this weekend i'll try 45.5gr and 46.5gr as speed test and give you the result,
Hunting season is over for me this years, With great succes for my new 7mm-08.
My Col : 2.790 inch.
And my brass : 308 Lapua.
