Well picked up a 7-08 on Saturday, Remington mountain LSS really like the gun so far and just finished with barrel break in today. Planning to load up 140gr accubonds and just wondering what everyone else has found as a good combo.

Im looking for the same thing! I just bought a new to me kimber montana in the same caliber. Really hoping to go lead free with either a tsx or ttsx. Ill pass on anything I learn, Im a newbie handloader.

Good luck!

I use necked down .308 lapua brass, federal 210M primer, 47.5 gr Win 760 under the 140 berger. This runs at about 2880fps from a 21" barrel. I cant remember what the OAL is, I'd have to go check my notes but they are long (wont feed from mag). This load shoots just over half moa from a shilen barreled browning abolt.

I use Varget. Behind 139 SST's and 140 TSX. I get best results up near the book maximum loads; I think I'm actually a hair over the max listed in some books, although my seating depth isn't as deep, for a longer OAL (still enough to function through the magazine, and not so much that it jams into the lands). MV is about 2850-2900 depending on the temperature. I do get elevated pressure signs if I use this load in the middle of the summer heat: primer pockets start to loosen up after 3 or 4 loads, and some of the cases won't hold primers after 5 or 6. If I were planning to use this gun outside of the cool fall hunting season, I'd back off a bit.

I am going to start loading for this caliber this spring too. I decided on 120 grain TSX's. Anyone have min/maxes for varget or H4895 with these powders or ? I don't want to hijack the thread but why is it that powder types are so different with TSX's compared to the same weight ordinary jacketed bullets?

H4350 for accuracy W760 for a slight velocity increase.

I have better luck with Swift and Sierra bullets, than Nosler and Hornady, just what the rifle prefers.

For factory twist rates I'd stay with the 140's , they seem to work best.

Pick an OAL and stick with that and vary your charges to find your sweet spot.Your pressure changes will happen just as it would if you used different seating depths.

2.800" for OAL seems to work just fine and allows you to use the magazine with no issues, or go with what the bullet manufacturer recommends.Don't go changing too many things at once.

I have data sheets for many different bullets/powder loads if you are interested.

Remember to always work up your loads because every rifle is different.

i shoot this caliber in my winchester m70 classiccompact. 140 gr accubonds over about 44 grains of reloader 19. winchester large rifle primers and winchester brass. not a real tack driver but gives about 3/4 inch groups. shot this round for a couple years and have not recovered one bullet.

I've had good results with the 7-08 and 120 gr bullets using IMR4064. Lyman #49 shows min/max as 39.0 - 44.5(compressed).

I also have a 7MM-08 LSS and it absolutely loves Ramshot, Big Game with both the 120gr TTSX and 120gr NBT. I was able to pick up 150fps over RL15 without any pressure signs, finishing right at 3130fps.

I just picked up some of that powder to try in mine with the same bullet.

I have it throttled up with H414 to around 3050fps. That 120 grain bullet seems to kill better than it should....

Interesting about the 120 gr bullets, might have to try some. I thought the 140gr accubond would be good all around bullet but doesn't sound like too many people are using them.

I am using 150gr Scirocco's @2750 ft/sec , amazing accuracy, high BC , 500 yards wouldn't be out of the question if the shooter is capable. You could go faster but the accuracy of this load was wonderful.

I like the idea of 150 sciroccos! and if you can push them to 2750 fps accurately... what powder and load weight are you doing that with?
A-bolt that sounds pretty sweet no?
and by the way uncle P seems to be thinking the A7 would be a reasonable alternative to the 85. talked for a while tonight Havent heard him this excited about shooting in a few years!

I am using W760, CCI 200's , RP brass, 2.800" COAL.

My charge weight is below book minimum so you will have to work up your own test loads, use the information on the Winchester powder site.

I am using a 26" barrel and custom chamber so what I get for velocities will be way out from what you get. I would guess you will get these numbers with 46 grains of W760.

My powder charges went up in .3 grain increments , either way on my load by .3 and my accuracy began to fall off.

I'd start with .5 grain increments and fine tune from there , don't play with your seating depth, leave it at one spot and tune your powder from there.

I also have test data for 130,139,140,150,162, and 168 bullet weights if you are interested.

Some info for 140 gr would be awesome. That is what I currently have on hand. My barrel is 22" so the 150's would be moving quite a bit slower. Right now I will try some out with imr 4350 and h414 and see what happens.

H414 is the same as W760, you would likely be able to get the same velocity, just work up and watch for pressure signs with the 150's start at 42 grains.

Start at 43 grains and go up from there with the 414/760 with 140's.

I had a 22" 7-08 that I had used 760 and getting 2860-2870 ft/sec with 140 grain bullets.No pressure signs.

Just hit that Winchester reloading center and it will give you very safe starting points.

I am loading 139g Hornady Interbonds for my dad. They are working well for him. Not sure what the fps is because my book is not close by but they are effective.

Well got some 140's loaded with imr 4350 and h414. See how the group and go from there. Might have to try some 139-150's. Thanks for the info.
