7mm-08. Moose??

PS, gotta remember, that a 7-08 @ 200 yards is the same thing as a 7mm Rem Mag @ 340 yards and an STW @ 440 yards

:)

ok one last thing, about the 175 gr. trajectory

175 gr. Nosler Partition @ 2400 fps

zero @ 100 yards

bullet drop @ 150 yards = 1.8"

drop @ 200 yards = 5.4"

drop @ 250 yards = 11"

energy @ 250 yards = 1600 ft-lbs

For comparison, a 140 gr. @ 2850 fps drops 7.3" @ 250y and lands with 1750 ft-lbs

the 175 gr. bullet was a great killer of very large game when loaded in the 7x57, which fired them at 2300 fps. Within 250 yards (further than most shot opportunitys), the 175 gr. will do just as well as the 140 gr., and maybe better, with the deeper penetration.

I have never shot a moose with the 7-08, but I sure have shot a few with it's ballistic twin, the 7x57. My bullets of choice have been the 150 or 160 Partition. I bnelieve I have shot 9 moose with this chambering [it all gets blurry after so many moose!! ;) :D ] I do know that all were killed with one shot except one, which I put a second into after he got up after falling down once. The suggestion of the 140 TSX is sound, I'm sure, but since Barnes bullets have been iffy in the accuracy department, I regard them with a bit of suspicion myself. If they shoot well in your rifle, go for it. I would not feel undergunned inside of 350 yards with the 7-08 and a decent bullet. Place it in the vitals and start working!! Regards, Eagleye.

7 mm = the 160 nosler partition

I've taken a lot of moose over the years with a 7mm, a larger case, but for moose the 160 part can't be beat. The 140 is OK for deer. It's a great caliber, enjoy Bill.

I shot several Muleys with my Old Model 70 Featherweight in 7mm-08, unfortunately only one Moose though......
200 meters... give or take. The shot went clean through the ribs, nice entry and exit. Dropped where it stood, perfect heart shot ;)
I was loading Hornady 139 grain interlocks at the time.
I wouldn't hesitate to take the 7mm-08 Moose Hunting again and with "todays" quality bullets I would feel far from "undergunned"

And I bet you thought I would know.No we have never used the 7mm-08 on anything bigger than whitetails.I have read in hunting magazines about hunters useing the 7mm-08 on black bear, moose, and elk with good results using premium bullets.Sorry I can,t help much more than that.

Ill buy one on EBay for $150 and sell it to you for $295, ok? :p

if anyone is interested, you can get a scope like Nesters for $320 w/ tax NIB from Russell Sports in Calgary. No ring marks or smoke smell either :D

Rather surprised at you posting all this information as I can't figure out who read it too you. Always thought of you as a deadbeat with a grade 7 education but look at you doing math and everything. I'm sure you had help.

Actually, the 175 gr bullet can be easily driven to 2700 fps.

Check out the Speer Number 11 reloading manual. There are two loads that exceed 2700 and two more that are less than thirty-five fps slower.

When sighted in for 250 yds, it has a mid-range trajectory of 3.5 inches. At 300 yds it is only 4" low, and has 1800 ft-lbs of energy remaining.

Yup, it's definitely a moose cartridge.

Id feel alot more comfortable pushing them at 2500 fps myself. Most 7-08s have 20-22" tubes, not 24-26" like they use in the manual tests.

Nester, you hurt my feelings. PM me and we can talk trade for my custom 710 ;)

Hey Nurse Nester... play nice!

Todd's 710 Custom is sweet BTW, if you're serious about a trade... super smooth action, and the wood ain't bad either!

Had a 7-08 custom built well before they came out as a factory round and have shot both deer and moose with it . I use nothing but 130 gr speer B.T. at about 3200 fps and try to keep the shots under 300 yards. However when strictly hunting moose and Cariboo in northern B.C. I do prefer the 7 mag.
