7mm-08 Nos Partitions

The Partition is still a great bullet and would compliment the 7mm-08 well. The previous owners of my .284 used the 140gr to great avail, and a friend of mine shot an elk and other animals with the same bullet in a 7x57.
 
Partitions kill, no doubt. But I haven't bought a box of them NEW in about 8 years. I have traded for some though, because the price was right.

TSX/TTSX/Accubonds is where it's at for me

I am not going to be handloading for the 7mm-08 until the fall..
are there any decent factory options for TTSX or TSX?

having a bit of trouble finding these...federal premium 140gr barnes tsx
everyone is sold out
 
Federal makes the only Barnes load for 7-08, you might have better luck finding some this spring once stores get their stock arriving.
 
Well, since I am such a Partition "slut", I have to step in and voice an opinion. Don't sell the Partition short! It does not quite have the BC of an Accubond, nor the pinache of a TTSX,[both very fine bullets, BTW] but it is boringly dependable and plenty accurate in 99% of all rifles. As a matter of fact, I have a couple of rifles that prefer the Partition over any other bullet. Your 7-08 will work great with either the 140 or 150 Partitions. I would try both and then work with the one that shot best. The 160 is also an option, but is better in a slighly longer case/action, since in the 7-08 on a short action, the 160 starts to encroach on powder space. I do not at present have a 7-08, but own it's ballistic twin, the 7x57 Mauser. It shoots any Partition well, with the 160 being the best, and, strangely, the 150 the worst. That being said, the 150 still averages 1¼moa.

I don't buy into the TSX hype. Sure they penetrate real well, but I'm not entirely convinced that the wound channel is optimal. They're also quite expensive. They might be a good choice for dangerous game, but for deer/elk/moose I'll stick to partitions and accubonds. Thats my opinion, and I'll probably be bashed for hating on the TSX.


BTW my 7mm-08s love the accubonds. Though Wrong Way claims the TTSX shoot VERY well in one.

7mm 140 gr TSX are only ~$3 more than the 7mm 140gr Partitions. Accubonds are much cheaper though...

Personally, I think the Partition works well in lower velocity cartridges. Similarly, the TSX works well in high speed rounds, where the front of the partition usually disintegrates...

FWIW, they'll all work if we do our part, and use the one that shoots the best in our rifle...
 
Well i found a box of the TSX and a box of the Partitions..
So I bought both...

The partions wre 5 dollars less than the TSX,...but get this... the partitions at thiis particular shop, were 12 dollars less that the shop just down the road !!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek:

There were balistic tips and a few more as well as a 150 gr in , hmm, what was that,...Hot Core? Federal ..

Anywho,. I'll give em a wizz next week sometime..
 
partitions

nosler partitions a the only bullet I have used for hunting in my 6.5x55. I have a few buddies that handload them for me. I have'nt had one fail yet and tend to agree that they prefer slower velocities. 2300-2400 fps out of my gun depending on the load
 
I should be getting a 6.5x55 T3 in the mail next week, and I'm also contemplating what bullet I'll be choosing as my "go-to-do-it-all-hunting-bullet", I hunt mostly deer, black bear and I might shoot a moose ever decade or so with this combination.

We all know how a standard 129gr Interlock would be fine for all my hunting needs, but who am I kidding... I'll probably end up throwing hard earn cash on some high dollar premiums for hunting. I try to convince myself that its only a few dollars more, extra hunting insurance... blah.. blah.. blah... When the fact of the matter is, I just use premiums to help boost my confidence.

Bartell what is your go-to hunting bullet in your 260's? Eagleye, with your extensive handloading experience with the 6.5x55 what do you recommend for this particular cartridge?

I have used the partitions but both my 7-08's seem to prefer the accubond. My 700 groups the ballistic tips under a half inch but I am not happy with the performance on the one buck that I shot with them. I know one buck is not much of a sample size but the accubonds work good and accuracy is still under an inch and that's good enough for me.
 
140 gr partitions would work great in a 7-08, but just about the perfect bullet for that cartridge is the 120 gr TSX.

It would penetrate at least as far as the heavier partition, kills great and would be quite a bit flatter shooting.

I am also NP nutz.The NP is one of the best hunting bullet ever made,and the price is right.:D
